  1. hi, i hope anybody can help me. i was just using pinnacle studio SE 8.1 for creating a 2 hour long DVD. just some captured mpeg-files and a "standard-menu" (for the chapters).
I have been rendering the DVD without burning it, but pinnacle fails to complete the rendering. in the options menu i chose "automatic" and checked "mpeg-audio" in order to get maximal movie-quality.

pinnacle starts rendering and it works. but as soon as it has completed the actual rendering it starts counting down the "needed space" from 8,8GB (actually i don't know what this means, but since it says "needed space"=8,8GB and "quality"=49% this would be around 4,7GB then again...). when it has counted down to about 2GB it suddenly stops, telling me the very unspecific "a required source is not available"...

well, i have been trying rendering the DVD in user-defined mode as well, where i reduced quality and would have had some space left on the DVD. didnt work either. i have enough free disk-space (14GB should be enough, i suppose). i also tried out rendering a VCD which worked, so there can't be any corrupted video-data.

so now i don't have any more other ideas where the problem could be. i don't know if there could be a "MPEG audio"-problem since i don't have the codecs installed but on the other hand I assume that there would not be this option in pinncle if it did not have the needed codec...the problem is that i cannot create the DVD without MPEG-audio since also the "user-defined"-mode is too big for the DVD then...

can anybody help me? btw, i hope you understand everything i have written, since i had to translate some words from german to english...

    thx

Hey, welcome to the Pinnacle Won't Work For Em Club.

I've never gotten my Pinnacle Studio 8 to burn a DVD. My best advice to you would be to get another authoring application. I currently use TMPGEnc DVD Author. You could check out DVD-LAB...it's free.

As far as getting pinnacle to work, you should check out videoguys.com and mikeshaw.co.uk (I think) for computer tweaks to streamline your system for working with video.

You could very well be running out of disc space. Pinnacle will write things to a temp file while it is encoding and will then write the final product. You don't list anything about your set up, but you could also be facing a I/O issue. Hopefully you are not trying to write to the same HD that you are reading from...more specifically than HDs, you should be reading and writing to different IDE channels.

I use Pinnacle to edit my video and to encode the DV-AVI files but then I import them into TDA to author the DVD.

    Good Luck.

  3. okay, first of all thanks for all the tips. i will definitely try out rendering with more free disk-space. actually i don't know what you mean with the I/O-problem but since i only have one HD it won't make a difference if i use the same drive or two different partitions for input and output, will it?

one more question...if i use one of your mentioned programs is it possible to import the "pinnacle file type"? since I have cut and prepared all the different scenes of my movie in pinnacle it would be horrible to have to do that again...well on the other hand i wouldn't have a choice :/

    What is TDA?

I"m having trouble rendering a DVD project in pinnacle studio 9.4.3 and may try your solution of making the DV-avi and then author the DVD with another program.

  5. From Make Movie\Settings place a tic in the radio button "Create disc content but don't burn". If that works, then go back into settings and tic "Create from previously created content...or burn with Nero.

It may help to close all running applications running in the background prior to starting Studio and have blank media in your burner before starting the rendering process.

I've been using Studio since version 8.4 and now using verison 9.3.5.10. In this time I've made and burned over 300 DVD's.

If Stuido works for you, great...it not, time to move on...or go to the Studio users board. And yes, using AVI files is much better than using mpeg files.

Nope sorry, Pinnacle studio 8 isn't good about clearing working files. Try 18-20GB blank space and it will probably finish.

Studio is very picky about the clip sizes in the timeline. Make sure that you do not have any really small clips (reported as 00:00:00). If there are any, Studio will not render the file. Look at the log file - I don't remember the name - it is in one of the Studio directories. Anyway once you find the file look for any errors - there may be some clips that are showing up as 00:00:00. You should be able to find these in the timeline and remove them.

Either that or create another project. Could be your .stu file is corrupted.

I don't use Studio anymore - switched to Liquid Edition and never turned back.

of course, disc space is important too.
