  1. Hi all,

If I back up one of my commerial DVD films to a dual layer DVD+DL using DVDdecrypter or DVDshrink and my NEC3540 will I lose any film/picture quality at all.

Hopefully because the copy will fit the complete whole disc without compressing/shrinking - the quality should be the same.

    Is this right?

If the disc is bigger than 8.5 GB, you'll have to slightly shrink it. Most of them aren't, so Steve said, you'll probably lose no quality.

BTW, you probably won't need DVD Shrink. Just rip an ISO in DVD Decrypter and then write the ISO back to a dual layer disk.

8.5GB is the max. I dont think there are any movies larger than this capacity. So you could be able to do a perfect 1:1 copy without any quality loss.

    No.

DVD-18 (15.9 GB) is the biggest commercial disc you'll find - see http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#3.3
    If in doubt, Google it.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I made the assumption of single sided disks only. 8.5GB is the max for a dual layer (i.e. DVD-9), as the majority of dvds are DVD-9. DVD-18 are very rare and hard to come by, but even if you did come across one, you still would be able to do a 1:1 perfect copy, each side copied on each DL disk.

You would need to flip the disk over on the DVD-18, but i dont think you can get more than 8.5GB on a single sided.

    8.5GB is marketing speak - it's actually 7.91GB ...
    If in doubt, Google it.
