Hi,
12mp???? You've got to be joking. I thought that was for the prosumer market only???? I mean those are probably for a $1000 or more.
You're lucky to find a good 5 megapixel for $300 or so.
Kevin
EDIT - Sorry did you mean 1.2 megapixel??? In that case you can easily get those under $100. Just check bestbuy or ebay and you'll find a ton of them. My apologies if you had a typo there.....Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
12 Megapixel? Wow!! Isn't 8 Megapixels like $1000.00 or something?

12MP doesn't do anything for you.
Don't get caught up in the "bigger MP" BS.
Get a camera based on the glass, low or no shutter lag, and it's EV (low light) performance.
Anything 2.5MP or above makes great 8x10 prints.
Also, how much money do you want to spend?
In the consumer point-and-shoot, get a Fuji or Canon.
In the professional SLR, get a Nikon or Canon.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

When I bought the Canon S1 I liked the
10x zoom.
It's only 3 mp but I can get 'close' to
the object with the zoom.
Some camera reviews can be found here.....

That reminds me, if you get one with a "zoom" lens, be sure it's optical. "digital zoom" is craptastic, and basically bisects pixels and enlarges, it looks like garbage, at any MP.
If you need "zoom", consider an SLR.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Oh thats real strange, I saw a bunch of cameras on ebay that said 12mp and they were around 150.00. Actually my friend just got one from ebay, but I just couldnt find it, and it was 12mp.
-
I dunno how they're measuring, but no $150 cam is 12megapixels. A decent 6MP one like a digital rebel is gonna run you $700-ish, IIRC.
I like my little Panasonic. Not a big camera name, but 3MP, 12x zoom, and (the reason I GOT this) image stabilization for the zoom. Almost every shot with heavy zoom comes out, assuming decent light. This wasn't even true for me with my 3MP 3x zoom Olympus.
But to do over, I'd have gone for the 4MP one, but not for the numbers. I wanted the smaller bodied one for convenience, but it's still fairly front heavy and non-ergonomic for it's size. I think the bigger cam would balance better, and I'd get a better lens to boot. Plus the 4MP. -
You probably saw something like this:
NEW! 12MP DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERA CAMCORDER with 270° TFT
It's a video camera, it's a 12MP digital camera, it's a MP3 player! All for $99.99!!!
If you read more closely:
"12M Pixels (4000 x 3000) Interpolated Resolution"
Googling the supposed make & model (SVP™ DV_12P) gets no hits.
Sounds extraordinarily bad all the way around.

wow, that really messed up. So whats a trully good camera with fast shutter, and good quality light, and picture.

There is nothing "good" in that range, but you may find some cheap that works. Good cameras for consumers start at about $300-400, and good pro cameras start about $5000

well alright, I just wanted to know what was good, something like on ebay for that price; If any of you have ever purchased some kind of model around that range.

I pretty much got to agree with the little blue guy
A good image is more in the glass when it comes to zoom and shutter speed is very important for anything that moves faster than a snail. ( I am actually reffering to shutter lag or whatever you call the time from when you push the little button until the time that the camera actually records the subject [focus, apature, flash, all the calculations, record and be ready to do it again])
Do you want a pocket camera for snapshots or a full bodied and lensed camera for reproduction or some other type work? Oh how I would love one that does both but I dont think it exisits yet. I don't think that you are going to find a pocket camera that can reach from the cheap seats and freeze the moment that the bat hits the ball. And if you can afford a camera that can you probally wont be sitting in the cheap seats.
I would tell you to read up on the subject, but there is a more fun way. Leave your wallet at home and go to a camera store to get your hands on a few different types. Talk to the sales guy. Most of them are camera nuts and love to talk photography. Go ahead and tell them that you don't know what they are talking about and let them explain a few things. Step aside for the paying customers and be ready to spend some time there. Don't buy anything that they reccomend. Go home and confirm anything that they said to you as fact with your new knowledge and a search engine. You will agonize over the selection and never be completly happy with whatever you buy.
Be advised! Photography can be a very adictive hobby! First you will buy a cheapo camera and then a more expensive and extras and so on. And starting out at the high end if you could afford it does not garentee that you will get your fix either.Becoming a junkie and not having lots of money is no fun.
Good Luck!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

Nikon 4300 was my first digital camera and the best one I have seen in that price range. Excellent pictures with full manual controls.

Yeah, I need to sell at least one of my extra pro lenses. I have a buch too, but tend to use the same 4 all the time, no reason to have dust collectors.

Don't really know about that camera but I'd rather go here ($15 shipping vs. free):

On that note: I don't see how anybody could buy something on ebay that is most likely used for the same price that you could get it brand new at Amazon and then pay more because the shipping will most likely be $20 or more.
