My standalone is LG LDA-530 and my burner is a lg 4163b. does anyone if this media will work well in my standalone? future shop puts them on sale every few weeks for 30 to 35 for a spindale of 100. Just wondering if anyone knows if there any good?

I looked the media up on the page, it had mixed reviews, but no info if it would play on my standalone. anyone know?

also do any candains that shop at futureshop know if you can return openend blank media if it not compatible?

  2. I've used Dynex on occasion and have yet to have a single disc result in a coaster, having used them for both data storage and video. Maybe they have a crappy life span or something, but I've burnt a couple cakes of these and have yet to have an issue. I doubt you'll have any problems getting it to play on your standalone if you've gotten it to play your burnt discs previously. I've never had my player reject a disc because of the brand of media. Your burner is a different story. My Sony for example hates any -R media no matter who it's by. I've hacked the firmware and that may be why, but as long as you have what usually works as far as that goes you should be fine there as well.

I returned a package of Kodak 4x DVD-R (MAM media code) to Futureshop when my LG 4160B didn't like them. No problem. They didn't even deduct the value of the 3 coasters I had made with the disks.

Looking irate helps. You can return just about anything to Futureshop if you look irritable. They'll take it back just to keep the customer happy. Their sales staff may be lame but their return policies are great.

thanks for the replies. i have been using sony dvd-r's 25 bucks for 50 at walmart . so when the dynex spindle goes on sale for 30 its mighty tempting. i use my media for video. some cheap media will play on some standalones but will skip or freeze. so i was just wondering if anyone knew about these problems? sence i have a lg burner and lg standalone you would think that the dynex made by lg would work, well if i can take em back i guess i got nothing to loose.

Dunno about what quality Dynex are.

I stick to TY, MXL and SONY media IDs now. The low-end media usually isn't worth the aggravation.

Small 25-disk cakes of BenQ disks (grey plastic bottom) are usually rebranded SONY media ID disks here in Canada. Fujifim 50-disk cakes that say Made in Japan are usually TY media ID. Maxell disks that say Made in Japan are usually MXL media ID.

blankmedia.ca has a decent selection of disks too.

Last time I saw DYNEX media, it was using a non-ID media, some "made in Hong Kong" crap that failed about 60% of the time.

    I would avoid.

  7. The Dynex's I've used personally were just recently and were purchased at Best Buy, not that it matters where you get them, but maybe they suck less than they used to?

In general I've been using the Maxell discs marked Made in Japan purchased at Wal Mart, same price and those have treated me right as well, 13 bucks for 25 or 25 bucks for a 50 cake. If others recommend those as being higher end media than the Dynex why worry about saving the couple bucks? Make even a few coasters and your 'savings' are lost. You'd probably be fine w/the Dynex but Maxell would be the safer road... since you mentioned getting 'em from Wal Mart... they can be found cheaper online, of course.

I just purchased some Dynex discs & not one is worth the name of being called a coaster. I have have used many different types of media, & this is by far the worst media ever.
