  1. Has anyone ever seen any DVD-Rs with silver backs instead of the common blue/purple-ish backs? I'm trying to find media that basically looks the same as commercially produced studio DVDs. I know this sounds silly, but I put a lot of effort and care into the stuff I make for myself and want it to look professional. The only difference is that irritating colored backing...

There is really no reason to care about the "look" of the recordable side when the only concern is for sheer cosmetics ... unless you are booting stuff and want your discs to look "real"

    Nice try !!!

    Precisely.

Every now and then, in legit work, you get a customer that says the same thing, but once you tell them "all discs are purple" they either listen, or they "go elsewhere" (which means they get to be told they're a dumbass several more times before they get the point).

  4. Excuse me for asking! Sorry, I didn't know that I needed a reason that would be acceptable to others. I said I know it's silly. I felt the same way about the old colored backs of CD-Rs...then they started manufacturing discs that were silver. What can I say...I guess I'm just anal...and I guess I'll have to find what I'm looking for on my own.

It doesn't exist. That was our point. The earliest DVD-R was a brownish tinted purple, but that's about it. Some tints blue, some tints cyan, some tints red. But it's still purple.

The closest it gets is that light purple cyanine-based dye, and it sucks. PRINCO uses it, for example. Horrible.

CD-R is not "silver" either, that cyanine stuff is a light cyan color that is mostly silver but reflects obvious green.

There is NO LEGITIMATE REASON to make silver recordable media. The darker colors are typically more reflective anyway.

  6. Only the RW stuff looks silver colored on the recording side. Try that if you must have a DVD that looks silver.
