  1. I have a friends that has two MACs. he has a Mac mini and a Ibook. He lost one of the disk. For some reason he want's to install OSX again. The disk he lost is the one from the mac mini. Can he use the disk from the ibook to install OSX again.

I know on PCs like Dell and HP they no longer give you the full intro disc of the OS only a Disk image. On a disc. So if you format it only has the drivers for that PC.

Also can the PC back on a MAC DVD that has the OS that came with the ibook or MAc mini. Want to know if the PC can read it my friend said his bother try to open the DVD but the PC could not see any files. I told him to just make a image file with nero.

If my PC can not back up his MAC OSX DVD. How can he back up his OSX DVD if I can not do it for him?

sorry if this sounds stupit but I have no clues when it comes to MACs.

    Thank you.

It is definitely possible to back up a an OS X DVD using Apple's Disk Utility program. I have done it. I think Nero disk imaging would work too, but have never tried it. There is no copy protection.

Apple doesn't make different versions of OS X for different computers. (There might be some other discs that contain the bundled software, these are different from model to model). The iBook OS X install disks should work fine on the Mini. The install disks that come with Apple computers are always the full install discs.

  3. Make sure the version of OSX to be installed is at least the same version that shipped with the mini or you may run into problems. If the ibook is a couple of years old, its version of osx may not be able to support all of the mini's hardware...

Babgolis has a pretty good point! The Mini shipped with 10.3, so it would be safe to use that (or 10.4).

if the iBook is older than the mini, it won't work.
