Tittle Safe template with transparent layer ????

HI. I was reading the tutorial on how to make slideshows in Premiere and he talked about Tittle Safe template with transparent layer --- so that you don't loose any of your image to the tv wrap. Could someone explain this???

Televisions are desinged to overscan the picture. The outer 5 to 10 percent of the picture won't be visible on most TVs. This is to prevent defects at the edge of the picture from being visible. It also hides the non-linearities of poor electronics.

The outer 5 percent of the picture is considered outside the "picture safe" area. Important picture elements should be placed outside that area because they will not be visible on most televisions.

The outer 10 percent is outside the "title safe" area. Text should not appear outside the title safe area. If you were advertising you wouldn't want your phone number to be invisible to half your viewers!

Be aware that each TV differs in the amount it overscans. And it may not be even on all sides. So one TV may loose 5 percent on both sides, another may loose 2 percent on one side and 9 percent on the other.

I don't use Premiere so I can't answer the quetion authoritatively. But the title safe template probably shrinks your picture so that it only fills the center 80 percent of the picture area, and then pads the edges with black borders. That way all of your picture is visible on TV albeit shrunken. Some black borders may be visible too.
