  1. I'm not sure what your using to convert an avi to an Mpeg but I think you need to find a better one.

    This is what transpired today:

1 AVI file 69 MB was converted to 382 MB's

1 AVI file 730 mb's was converted to 4,474,946 GB.

Too much to fit on a single layer DVD.

    Here is the log file:

Your source file is damaged and so the estimate of the size has gone wrong. Solution: see advice on the other thread you started about this: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1334458#1334458 or use dvdshrink on the output or fix the avi's before you run svcd2dvd.

  3. Way ahead of you as I made the reg file 500 instead of two hundred and still no difference.

So lets forget about the vary large file lets discuss how a 69 mb file becomes four times its orginal size..again we are dealing with a program that is not correctly converting. I use winavi also and it took both of these files and converted them without making them humungous. So if they can do it why cant your program also do it?

Could it be that you have merely taken a bunch of Free programs and made a GUI for them (frontend) and to really have to come up with a converter that really works would take some real knowledge.

Yes I am pissed that I talked my friend into purchasing a product that only works correctly when working with mpegs as the orginal files and has a major problem correctly converting AVI's.

PS: by the way I converted the larger of the two movies using WinAVI and the end result was a 1.7 gb file.

Fine. Drop me an email & i will send you a build that will do the same. Bare in mind that smaller the mpeg from the avi to mpeg conversion means lower quality. Why is putting a DVD together whilst only using half its capacity a good thing?

Yes ffmpeg is a "freeware" converter. But it is also very good. SVCD2DVD uses it but is not merely a "GUI wrapper for freeware tools" as it does many things NOT using freeware tools.

Just out of vague interest what value do you have at the bottom of the capacity bar when you first start SVCD2DVD?:

  6. I just have to speak up here. Chris has always done an excellent job addressing issues with this product. He never fails to personally address problems and go the extra mile to make things right.

He and I spent the past few weeks in a back and forth exchange over a particular type of AVI file that was uncommon and not likely to be seen often, but wanted to make sure that his work was compatible. I could have done the conversion by other methods, but Chris wanted things right and worked to get it that way.

There are problematic AVI's out there (I've had a few) that even high end converters (which I have tried) can't accurately predict the final result even on multiple passes. So as Chris said, fix the AVI then convert.

I think criticism of this type before Chris has even had the opportunity to look into the issue is way out of line (and probably should be dealt with by PM or email) and totally uncalled for at this point.

As to how does a 69MB AVI become 4X it's original size, this is determined by bitrate calculation based on frame size and file length.

Considering the probable source of your second AVI, you shouldn't be all that surprised if it has errors.
