LVD-2002 won't eject

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
When I reset the power, the player seems to get stuck in the loop, meaning it is trying to load an empty tray before ejecting it. Therefore, I can't open it.

this may sound silly, but I hit the tray while it tries to eject and eventually it ejects out. I've found that if I leave a disc in the tray it always ejects. so I always leave a blank disc in my player after using it.

Great minds think alike. I have come to the same conclusion, too.
BTW, the only way to open the tray (at least for me) was to keep the eject button on the remote pressed until it opens. Doing the same on the player itself did not work.
Go figure.
