If it were me, I'd encode the two files separately, then join them during the authoring process. TMPGEnc DVD Author makes this task very simple indeed.
If in doubt, Google it. -
when you say "authoring process" you mean when they are in vob format? so encode then combine the vob files ?
-
No.
The encoding process is actually just converting your AVI files into MPEG files - https://www.videohelp.com/glossary?E#Encoding :
Encoding
Encoding is the process of changing data from one form into another according to a set of rules specifiec by a codec. The data is usually a file containing audio, video or still image. Often the encoding is done to make a file compatible with specific hardware (such as a DVD Player) or to compress or reduce the space the data occupies.
Author
To format video into a form ready to burn onto a recordable disc or to stream onto the Internet. VCD, SVCD and DVD Author is to format video into its standard file structure and also add optional menus, chapters, audio tracks, subtitles, slideshows and much more.If in doubt, Google it. -
yeah , what i did was combined the two avi files then encoded them and burned. It plays till the break comes

a-ha !
just as I thought ... and it gives you the IFO, BUP and VOB files output from your AVI input, doesn't it ?
Here's something to try ...
Convert each AVI separately to a separate folder so that each part has it's own VIDEO_TS folder, IFO, BUP & VOB files. TMPGEnc DVD Author has a fully functional trial version that is free for 30 days, and you can use the Add DVD Video button to add already-authored titles - you just have to point it to the VIDEO_TS folder and it will do the rest. Do this for each section in turn, making sure to add the 2nd AVI into the same track as the first AVI. Delete the chapter stop that it will create at the beginning of the 2nd file, then go through and set your own chapter points and create a menu if you wish.
If you don't want any menus, then http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/test.htm can do it all for you using VOBEdit and IFOEdit (both free). If in doubt, Google it. -
I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm not a n00b by any means.
Personally I would combine the .avi's using something like the 'append segment' command in Vdub, demux or .wav save the sound, run a bad frame check as you're working from a split source and proceed to encode to mpg as normal.
Wouldn't you have a better chance of having A/V sync issues doing two seperate encodes and combining as the last step or is there honestly no difference? At the very least it seems this would double the 'encoding work', or at least the steps involved in that phase. Just personal preferance maybe? -

Can i ask you guys one other question why i have you all here. I dont want to make another post. Sometimes i notice that the audio goes a little of while playing movie and i have to pause the dvd then play it to get it to "sync" right. Then after a bit it goes off again , any clue why would do that ?
Also i am going to try with DIVXtoDVD (i have that) and i might d/l the other program to test for a month, i hear a lot about that program on here. -
Pausing your set top player fixes your sync issue?
If you test the VOBs and they're sync'd all the way through before you burn then you'd have to blame it on your set top player. Not until I started getting really into working with video did I believe there were ghosts in the machine, but there are... I swear... lol -

use mainconcept to encode avi's then womble to join.
if u have sync issues delete the f*ckin thing cos it's not worth the bother of fixing. -

My mistake. I thought the slight pause between authored clips was due to separate files."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -
