This is sort of a take on the movie threads I've seen lately. I'm interested in bands/singers who are fairly successful and are still making music. No dismissals of entire genres please, i.e., "rap sucks" or "country blows". We all know that music is purely subjective, so I'm not looking to bash anyone here. Some of the ones I'm puzzled by:
- Dave Mathews Band- these guys have been wildly popular for reasons unknown to me. They have a following that rivals that of the Grateful Dead.
- Coldplay- I can see how some might find the actual music appealing, but Mr. Gwyneth's falsetto annoys the crap out of me.
- Kanye West- I'll concede that some of his productions are ambitious, but most of them are just unlistenable to me, and I've never seen an artist with less humility. The guy makes a point to voice his displeasure at not winning a silly award, and he even prays as the nominees are being read.

Robbie Williams, a man whose only discernable talent seems to be for eating.
Madonna, a "singer" with the worst voice I have ever heard.
Kyle Minogue, nice arse shame about the rest.
Dido, see Madonna (above). All the charisma of a duck egg.
etc, etc, etc.
Buddha says that, while he may show you the way, only you can truly save yourself, proving once and for all that he's a lazy, fat bastard. -
Creed, need I saw more? thankfully we got rid of them.
Also I get this unexplained urge to kill when I hear Dave Mathews Band. -

Never understand how the mass public is drawn to these people!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not even going to go into 99.9% of RAP -
Britney Spears
Jessica Simpson
<insert other female singer here>
Creed
Nickelback
3 Doors Down
Velvet Revolver
basically everything you hear on the radio these days -
@TGPO:
No complaints about the first 4 ... Nickleback are OK-ish ... and 3 doors down are dodgy at best ...
... but Velvet Revolver ? You must be too young to remember Slash in the GNFNR days
Ja Rule is probably my one "success conundrum" ... closely followed by 50 Cent.If in doubt, Google it. -
Creed
Britney Spears
Jessica Simpson
Ashlee Simpson
Linkin Park
50 Cent
Backstreet Boys
N'SYNC
Godsmack
Kid Rock
Evanescence
Incubus
Staind
Hootie and the Blowfish
Foo Fighters
Limp Bizkit
Tupac
Dixie Chicks had some good musical talent. It was the warbling loud-mouthed lead singer that caused all the musical and PR problems. She did have a powerful voice.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Back OT: I would have to agree with whoever said Limp Biskit. What a pile of useless BS packaged and sold to the public as music. I have never a bigger no-talent wannabe than Fred Durst. The best thing Limp Bizkit could do is ditch Fred, change their name, and let Wes Borland take things from there.

Velvet Revolver is nothing special, and in order to really grab everyone given the history it needed to be something special. -
I'm with you on Dave Matthews Band. I don't dislike Dave Matthews and I think his music is okay, but I don't know why he's so popular.
I've never bothered to listen to any Dixie Chicks music, but they're another one for me. -

Any of the "pop" genre bands/singers. Brittany, Aguilera, BSB, etc, etc.
Most of the "so-cal punk" bands like Good Charlotte, Creed, etc, etc. They all sound the same. If ANY of them would gain some sense of uniqueness, it would be a godsend.
Although, I must say that for whatever reason, I raelly enjoy 3 Doors Down lately.
Nothing will compare with Metallica though

can you even call them music? or acts for that case.God created man and finding him not sufficiently alone, gave him a companion to make him feel his solitude more keenly. -- P. Valery -

I actually liked this Gorillaz. But working in the store, I had to hear it all the time and it wore on me. -
Too many to list.
Just for fun, have you ever looked up "Hansen's Disease"?:
"Leprosy, sometimes known as Hansen's disease, is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, an aerobic, acid fast, rod-shaped mycobacterium. " -
