  1. I don't know about anyone else, but I hate iTunes 5. It looks like Windows, which gets on my nerves. Also, I can't get rid of the podcast option under the source column (if anyone knows how, please tell me....it just aggravates me).

If nothing else, does anyone know where I can download iTunes 4?

Trash itunes 5 from your System,
and grab a Panther Factory disc, or
    a Tiger v.0 disc, and you'll get iTunes 4.8.

Of grab an iLife '05 disc and get Pre-Podcast iTunes, v. 4.7.

  3. Since Podcasting was integrated into iTunes no version has allowed you to remove it from the source list. iTunes 5 actually DOES. Preferences....Parental Controls..."Disable Podcasts".

Personally, I don't mind the new look. Kind of a darker shade of the new unified toolbar used in Mail. As for it looking like windows, while I'm not a fan of the new jagged corners, and the placement of the volume controller, I don't quite think it's that bad. I appreciate the fact that it now takes up less screen space and it looks cleaner and a bit more modern.

Still, lots to like in 5:

    - VBR AAC support
    - Lyrics support
    - Better search
    - Folders for playlists
    etc.

    .
god bless you sir. Hadn't looked there, as that option does nothing for me. The new look still gets on my nerves, but now that podcasts are gone, I think I can deal with it.

  5. You can get rid of the "metal' look:

When you download this, there seems to be a piece of the insaller missing, so it's necessary to do it manually: Open Package contents for iTunes 5, move the iTunes.rsc file to another location and drag in the new one, and then launch.

There's also a resource for getting rid of the Finder windows metal look called noBrushedFree I could send you.

  6. As a user who has always despised brushed metal, I thought I'd pass along a piece concerning the absence of it in iTunes 5. It's hysterical:
