I'm a film hobbyist. I don't want to go to a film school to learn how to make a better film so what are my options? Can anyone provide me links to sites and forums that talks about making films? A good suggestion on books to read is also appreciated.

There was a pretty big thread about this few months ago..... maybe even longer. If you do a search for a common moving film camera you should be able to locate it pretty quick.

Well, I was about to make the suggestion to join (free) the Internet Archive:

    http://www.archive.org

... since a lot of films put online are done so by amateur filmmakers. However, when I went to their forum area:

    http://www.archive.org/iathreads/forums.php

I didn't notice an "amateur filmmaker" area. Still, you might want to contact the honcho there ("brewster") and ask him to create an area. God only knows it would be filled up quickly.

    There's also IndieTalk:

    http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?t=6497

... or the Small Guage & Amateur Film SIG at the AMIA:

    http://www.amianet.org/committees/Interest/SmallGauge/about.html

And, here's an interesting article you might want to read:
