Nah, just joking ...
... you can't calculate something that uses a %-quality method all that precisely, unless you've got some sort of control over the average bitrate used, which you don't in autoGK. It all depends on the quality of the original as to how much bitrate (and therefore filesize) the file will use / take up.
Is size a concern ? (ie. you want to fill a CD/DVD)
Post more about what you intend to use the final output for an we might be able to offer some suggestionsIf in doubt, Google it. -
Hi-
Jim's right. If using the Quality 1-pass Mode, it depends entirely on the compressibility of the source. It's not unheard of for the AVI to wind up larger than the original DVD. And, as he also implied, if you want to make the AVI for a particular file size (1 or 2 CDs, for example), you'll want to use the standard 2-pass encoding. -
ok wat wat would be a good size for an hour then? I just want to make a file smaller?

You get 2 replies and then come back with an almost identical question? Just do it, and if you don't like the results then do it again with different settings. If 1-pass at 95% (stupid setting if you ask me) is too large, then do a 1-pass for 70%. Or do 2-pass for whatever size you like. 4-500 MB might be good for starters for an hour long video. Have you even bothered to read the included tutorial? I wrote it.
A Quality encode will give you even quality throughout the movie at your designated percentage. The default is 75%, which will give you very good quality. Good quality percentages begin at about 67% (Quantizer 3). I don't think there's much point in going above about 80% because then you'll lose some of the benefits of MPEG4's compression abilities. That's up to you, though. But remember, if you use a Percentage output, you'll lose control over file size.
