  1. Hi
who knows how to split a large 23GB-AVI-File into pieces of 4,7GB that means DVD-size .

What software does support this purpose ?

Do I need a special Video-software or is it possible to use any file-splitting software for any kinds of files ??

Problems makes the size of 23GB for many programs like AVI-Splitter which only supports a maximum of 2GB-size.

Who is experienced in splitting very big 23GB-files ???

    Thanks a lot

    Hi,

Are you trying to make a single dvd out of the one file or are you trying to preserve the original avi without converting it?

If your trying to make a single dvd conversion programs like tmpgenc should be able to take the avi and make a compliant mpg file out of it.

I don't have experience splitting a large avi file so you may want to do a forum search for "split avi file" and see what you dig up.

    Good luck.

    Kevin

EDIT - can't you just load it into a dvd burner program and have it automatically split to multiple discs???? It should work for an avi file I think. (as a data disc)

What kind of AVI file is it? If you're not sure, then how long is the video? (This will give us some idea of what, if any, compression codec was used.) If this is DV from a camcorder then you should be able to split it easily in VirtualDub, and for future 'captures' have your capture software automatically split it into DVD size segments.

  6. Thanks a lot for the link. It is very helpful.

O tryed splitting the large avi-file into segments with VirtualDub.

But the segments stopped at a size of .20.46.706KB
Where can I change these options ?

The sum of the segmented file-sizes is much more less than thi original avi-file-size.

  9. Another option look for a program called HJSplit on the web (it's a freebie) It'll split and recombine parts. www.freebyte.com/hjsplit

You just choose your input file and target file size and choose split and go.

    Good luck
