Is there a way to record music from the website that I listen to online. Is it even legal?

I use the record feature in Audacity all the time to record streams. As long as it's for your personal use only, I don't see any difference between recording an internet stream on your computer and using a VCR to record a TV program (which is perfectly legal, according to the Supreme Court).

It would depend on where you lived. It would actually be illegal in the US and so that does apply to you.

Its not the same as time-shifting broadcasts because there is no exigency. Its not like you are going to miss the transmission because you're out of town, or have to go to bed before its on. Since the audio is always on that website, you go to it when you need it. You can't time-shift that. Its just like how you can't time shift Pay-Per-View. If you have control over when you watch it, then you have no reason to time shift.

There is actually some case law on this too. You have a right to copy music for personal use but only if you use a "digital audio recording device" which has a special definition beyond the ordinary meaning of the words. The Supreme Court held that computers don't quality so you can't use them to exercise this right.

Thanks for the reply. Can the Audicity program also be used like Besweet to extract audio from DVDs and put them to CDs?

  7. Is there an app that I could set to record at a specific time and then save it to an mp3? I believe Audacity just records it in the RAM, which could be a problem depending on how much RAM you have. Is this considered legal in the US?

  8. RecAll has it's own timer and can record from the System Mixer and save as MP3.

I use it to record radio webcasts that I listen to later in my car.

I also use Windows' Task Scheduler to start media player in the middle of the night.

Looks like a good app but do you know of any freeware?
