I'm sick of it and I'm sure the other mods will agree that this is way to much. I will ban anyone who post free iPod links from this point forward. No more.

This also goes for your free FLAT SCREEN, FREE IPOD MINI, FREE NINTENDO DS, and anything else of that nature.

    That is all.

The general rule is not exact, but generally advertising is treated two different ways depending on other factors. The big ones are join date and posts. If someone spams, has only a few posts and has been here a short time, he's gone. He's obviously here only to sell something ....and members like that have very short memberships here. This is even easier to judge if all his few posts are of the spam variety.

However, if someone does that who has been here a while, has contributed to Videohelp, and maybe had a lapse in judgment with one stupid post, then he's given the benefit of the doubt ....a yellow card. I issued one that falls into this category earlier today, here in OT.

But Flaystus has given fair warning that enough is enough, and I agree. This stupid iPod scam has been going on most of this year, and they keep appearing every few weeks. Same with the LCD and other scams. We've all had enough.

I agree with the part about contributors to the site. I haven't personally seen that yet. I'm sick of those posts and its not just this board either. I'm glad something is being done about it.

Baldrick has made it quite clear to the mods that we are to take no prisoners with spammers. It's one of his pet peeves. And all the mods too. These slimy characters slip in here posing as video enthusiasts, just to whore their little scams ...and litter up our nice neat forum

That's just it. Spammers don't read the rules. But it isn't necessary for something to be in the rules for it to be a cardable offense. It's up to the mod to make the call, so it probably won't do anything more than annoying the good members by adding stickies to every forum here. One is enough

The rule about politics, religion and war being inappropriate topics only appears here in OT, if I'm not mistaken. Yet it's common knowledge all over the forum that it's not tolerated.

Frankly I consider this thread heads up enough. If they don't scan the stickies woe is them.

I saw the one cap took care of tonight. Its to much. At this point if you don't at least stop to think that MAYBE a forum might not want that posted then your either a) a low life or b) just stupid and have no clue how to behave on the intarweb.

Either way we as far as I am concerned we are better off without you.

Thankfully as far as I've seen they have been pretty contained to off topic.

True. It was more a tonge-in-cheek comment than anything else. I guess if the information's there, and you request them to read it. then they have no discourse when you ban their hideous asses.
    If in doubt, Google it.

From my understanding it's not a scam..... but to get it you need to recruit a whole bunch of people to sign up, they in turn have to do the same thing to get a free ipod. For one thing I would assume you have to opt-in to their email which leaves the door open for them to legally spam the hell out of your mailbox. Also your spamming for them with the free ipod as your reward....

The catch you ask? Well, it's pretty minimal actually; all you have to do is sign up to one of a number of free trials to services such as AOL or RealNetworks and also get 5 friends to do the same. After the free trial has ended you can easily cancel and receive your free iPod in the post.
I'd provide a link for above quote but it has link to welll ummmm you know

Edit:hmmmmm a thought has just ocurred to me, I have 800 mailboxes I could use.... Anyone wanna buy a ipod cheap?

I don't think its a scam. But it is advertising according to board rules. Also so many people are doing it that the nets forums are packed with free ipod offers. Its quite annoying.

I mean I didn't even try to get people here to click my link when I was playing Kings of Chaos, and that technically doesn't give me anything except and extra unit to use in the stupid game. These free __________ offers are really pissing me off.

No need to make it sticky on every forum, guys.
If someone WANTS to follow the rules, he will find them, and if for some reason he can't find it - he'll ask mods, or even posts something like "where are the rules?".
Those pests who want to advertise anything here know very, very well that it is against the rules, trust me. They know what theyre doing, they WANT to do it knowingly risking yellow card or ban. I repeat: WANT is the key word here.

Just ban these fuckers without any warning please. On sight. No hesitation. No discussions, no appeal. Please!

It's not really a scam so much as a ponzi scheme. Still it's advertising, even if you're lucky enough to sucker in the number of people to get yours free.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

    That's the plan.

Advertising or scam, it's still cheating. Legitimate advertisers here pay Baldrick for the exposure their ad gets with the activity level here.

Then someone comes along and tries to sneak in ads to get their advertising for free ...hoping nobody who can do something about it will notice We had one guy a while back that was spamming some ink jet product and a glance at all his posts showed that most of them had a link to this site. No matter what the post subject was he turned the conversation to this marvelous breakthrough :P I guess it never occurred to him that had he done it the legal way - contacting Baldrick and buying ad space, he would have probably made a lot more money ...and not gotten banned. Not a great thinker, this guy

Not to mention we generally remove all links too, on top of locking and/or banning. It's a waste of time for them. They are 100% obliterated.

  22. It is a scam. It is basically a variation of a pyramid scheme which is illegal in most Western countries.

I think it depends on which one you get hooked up with and how you look at it. At some point the refferals are going to dry up and the ones at the end of the line are going to be left holding the bag. The one I was reading about seems to be legit, you do actually get the free ipod. They did this with other products too, U.S. based company... I think it's more of a advertising scheme......

    The catches are:
    1. You have to provide them and other companies with a wealth of information.
    2. You have to meet the refferals requirements which in this regards if your at the end does resemble a ponzi scheme but since you have not invested any money in the scheme your really not out anything but time and your information.
    3. You have to sign up for the trials which if you don't cancel can cost you money.
    4. You opening up yourself to a whole warehouse full of legal spam.

It actually seems like a legitimate business model to me. Advertising is a big expense for business and getting the customer in the front door is the hardest part. This guarantees that they come in the front door. They are being paid to provide customers which have to try the service, that's the big catch. Although they can cancel you will always have those few that will continue to use it or miss the cancellation date.

  24. I hate spammers but I did see on TECHTV that is now G4TECHTV on the Screen Savers kevin Rose got a 250 of credit to the Apple website to buy a IPOD. Some one I know that works at EB the video game store said one of his friend sign up for Block Boster rentals and got a 150 dollar check the ran out of XBOXs.

I will say this never sign up for one of these only do it if you know some that did it or you see it on the news like FOXNEWS or CNN.

    Doubt it.
All you get would be tons of spam most likely (or not even that, if you have good filtering system on your mailboxes).
If anyone would get a free [insert name of it] then it will be one of the top email harvesters... but I even doubt that. As in every pyramide scheme - the first few get alot, the rest get shit.
