  1. Can you use a VFW to WDM wrapper under WinXP ?
    (to make VirtualDUB work)

that depends if there is an WDM driver available for the capture card that you are using.

in the next 2 weeks there will be an WDM beta driver available for the Studio DC10+ cards that can be used with a lot of video editing programs

  3. For ATI Radeon you don't need any wrappers.

  4. the wrapper is for the benefit of software that communicates with hardware thru the vfw architecture. if you want to use virtualdub, avi_io etc... with the ati radeon you need the wrapper

  5. Just installed a clean version of WinXP and the new XP display driver from ATI homepage and their MMC7.2 software, and to my surprise I could capture in Vdub at 704x576 without installing anything else....

So it seems that FilComArt was right

BTW I have a ATI AIW RADEON

Anyway, the drivers to the RADEON is of the WDM type, so how come Vdub work?

Yup, I had to install the wrapper on windows ME when I first installed my AIW radeon with the newest drivers and mmc 7.2. When I did a fresh install of Windows xp, using the drivers and mmc 7.2 for xp, I did not have to reinstall the wrapper and I can capture at any res I want to in vdub.

  9. the microsoft wdmvfw mapper is installed by default in winxp. it's also installed by default in directx8.1 & the video capture update for directx8.0(a) if prior wdm drivers exist on your system. at this time virtualdub can only communicate to hardware thru vfw period(god i hate repeating myself)

  11. It makes the program think it's talking to VFW, when it's actually talking to WDM

  12. Im using Virtualdub, but dont think i am using that.
would that be why i can not capture above 352x240?
(It looks like its a microsoft driver it is capturing from)
