I'm sure you have all heard about this one. Anyway, supposedly we are sending 12 FBI agents and scuba divers to help out, etc. My question is if we would bother if she were ugly? My personal opinion is that if it were anything other than an attractive woman it might not even be newsworthy.

That's why there was so much attention on Scott Peterson. The all-American Girl Next Door, not some rat-face pug or "dirty foreigner".

Oh there's no doubt in my mind that if there had been an ugly girl on that trip that got got we wouldn't be hearing much more than the first few blurbs on it. It's sad, but that's the way the media works these days.

What is with the media's fascination with missing white women? Yeah, I said it. The Aruba girl being attractive has little to do with it in my opinion. A white girl turns up missing and they call the F.B.I. in. In some cases I've seen them call the Army or National Guard. Next thing you know they'll be calling in the ******* Justice League or the X-men.

Trophy blondes aren't just the fancy of white males and the media. They're highly sought after pretty much anywhere you go. She was fortunate enough to be sporting the USDA prime beef sticker afforded by her American birthright. Hence it's newsworthiness. Send in the troops!!

  7. I think the movie was "Scary Movie 2" when the girl was trapped in her room and the masked assassin was trying to kill her... she goes online and types SWF in distress and the full police squad shows on stage in no more than 20 sec.
A funny way to prove this is true.

As a person who works for a local television station, we
tend to cover most everone who is missing, not just the cute blond chicky-chickys. However, National media coverage seems to favor them greatly. Evin The runaway bride chick (not blond, but from a rich background) had tons of coverage and she wan't even really missing. The really scary thing is that if you do murder a cute rich girl, the penalties will be MUCH more severe than killing some poor person.
There are many ways to measure success. You just have to find your own yardstick.

It's wild to hear everyone's take on what happened to this girl. Some say she is shark food and some say she could be kidnapped and sold in the sex slave market, which I guess is possible. But hard to imagine. Another thought is a similar situation that happened with the well known "fake kidnapping" woman from Georgia. But at that age, I cant imagine why she'd do that ? Life is pretty good in Mountain Brook.

  11. I personally think she was drugged with GHB & possibly OD'd or drowned. I think the boy(s) panicked afterward & tried to cover it all up.

At the risk of being politically incorrect, MY question is if she were ugly, would she even be missing in the first place? A former Mayor of Independence, Missouri (Richard Carpenter) once made a passing comment at a rally of women demanding tougher rape laws, quote, "The women who seem to complain the loudest about rape laws tend to be women who needn't worry about the occurrence." He's also the guy who was once quoted as saying, "The difference between rape and seduction is salesmanship." Hmm ... perhaps that's why he's a "former" mayor of the city, hehe.

Anyway, I heard that a special search team from Texas is being sent to Aruba. Why, I don't know.

Actually, they put the most flattering pictures of her up when she was first abducted. The candid ones I'm seeing now in the news and on television make her look a lot less attractive. In fact some of the photos of her don't even look like the first photos that were released. The media couldn't have altered her first photos just to hype it better, could they?

    How true ...

Irma actually is a blonde. But, it's more of a "dishwater" blond and she hasn't had a shampoo in a while. Seriously, though, does anyone think we'll ever see a poster like Irma's? Or, do you suspect Irma would ever find herself in Natalee's dilemma in the first place?

    Nahhhh.....

BTW, according to the latest news reports on this thing, all the arrested persons have been released. This has all the earmarks of an unsolved mystery that will remain unsolved. In theory, she was at one time on that "party boat" ... and no one knows how far out that boat went. And, there are sharks in those waters ... so much so that Birkenstock even sells a popular pair of sandals called "Aruba Sharks":

And, if her body was dumped over the side, it didn't even have to be that far away from shore. A lot of nurse sharks sleep during the day in the coral reefs surrounding the island ... coming out at night to feed. It's quite possible that all these land-based searches are in vain.

It's more than possible, it's likely. Anyone with a brain dumps the body in the ocean. Without a body, a conviction is nigh impossible.

    unless they get a confession.

if the person who did it hopes to get away with it, they better hope it was a one man job and they didnt tell anyone about it.. i never understand these murderers who kill people with accomplices, or if they do it alone they start blabbing.. and yes, telling your wife/husband/mother/father/brother/etc is blabbing. if/when you kill someone, you do it alone and you keep your mouth shut.

not all let go - only two

Seventeen-year-old Joran Van Der Sloot, and two other suspects -- Satish Kalpoe, 18, and Deepak Kalpoe, 21 -- appeared before the judge Sunday and will remain held for at least another eight days

Yup. But, I think the only hope the cops have is a confession. Dumping the body in the ocean, if that's what the culprit did, not only makes the body harder to find. Even if they do find it, being in water can confuse a coroner's ability to determine a specific time of death ... creating a technicality problem for the prosecution.

What a mess. I almost wish that, in cases of missing persons where murder is possible, they could strap all the suspects down to gurneys and dose them up with truth serum ... grilling them all until one of them cracks.

    I agree.

You know Aruba is counting the tourism $$$ down the tubes if they don't pin this on somebody.
