i got curious and experimented on converting a DVD to VCD using an AVI file. i thought i'd read more first, then found a link to FairUse tutorial. i didn't know it was even possible to burn an AVI file to make a VCD copy. the author said, when the output (AVI file) is ready, it can now be burnt. didn't we always have to convert the dvd into mpeg before it can be burnt to VCD? sorry i am a bit confused. your input will be highly appreciated.

  4. I think it means to burn the avi on CD as data CD, not as video CD.

oh actually, the avi file worked as video CD not as data CD. nero encoded the avi file first (must be to mpeg) then proceeded with burning. i was able to play the final output using my VCD player. but the only glitch was that, i saw many horizontal lines in my video. i know this problem can be solved on DVDx using interpolate. but how do i actually do that on FairUse? removing those horizontal lines. your input will be greatly appreciated.

If you want to convert a DVD to VCD, Fairuse is not the program to use. If you want to convert a DVD to AVI such as XVID or DIVX, then it works great, but it won't be a VCD. It will only be a CD with a AVI recorded on it. A VCD is in a MPEG format. For DVD to VCD, you might try TheFilmMachine, it does a decent job of DVD to VCD conversion.
