I have my 2 videos in mpg format with separate audio file. i also have the 2 videos in mpg with sound. i want to put it on dvd and create menus without converting it to dvd format. Is there a program for that? i want to keep the size the same so it will fit.

If you want menus you would have to convert to 'DVD format'. If the MPEGs are DVD compliant and you author them and add menus, they shouldn't change size, except for the additional size of the menus.

You can just copy them to a data DVD without any changes, but you wouldn't have menus and they probably won't play on most settop players.

Other than that, I'm not sure what you are asking.

You could look over some of the guides for converting SVCD to DVD. I haven't done it but SVCD has a non DVD compliant resolution. If you change the video header in the file you can trick the authoring program into thinking it's compliant allowing you to create the disc. This of course has some drawbacks, the first being that the resulting disc is not going to play on a lot of DVD players. Second if the framerates of the video are not correct you have to convert them to compliant formats, AFAIK you can't get around that.

If they are already compliant (look to the left under "what is") then most authoring programs won't convert them as long as you specify that.

In the end I think your best bet is to just convert them, if you adjust the bitrate accordingly you can fit many hours of video on a single DVD.

Depends on the software, other apps will do that, I have no Idea how Nero works and from the reviews around here I'd dump it.

Try Ulead MovieFactory, that has a "do not convert option"
