Laptops are generally more expensive for the same spec of PC, limited upgradability and designed for portability.

Also, laptops can never really be as fast as an equivilent PC. Lappy HDDs are way slower than Desktop 3.5'' ones, their processors like to throttle themselves all the time to save on battery power, and 99.9% of them have un-upgradeable JUNK for graphics. I suggest just getting a nice Desktop for home and a cheap lappy for the road. You'll thank yourself later...

    Hi,

You can get a "desktop replacement" laptop with near full power of a desktop. BUT they weigh like 10 pounds or something. Really cuts down on the portability factor.

But I agree with the above statements. Laptops are nice for go anywhere power but not as customizable as a desktop. You can get the parts for laptops but they'll more expensive in general.

About the only upgrades to the laptop, except maxing out memory, and getting a larger HD replacement, involve adding external peripherals. This defeats the purpose of the laptop. I agree with Studtrooper, get a cheap laptop for mobile, and stick with the desktop for home use. Remember, your laptop can be broken or stolen easily, so remember to backup constantly. I would also recommend the purchase a cable lock, if you constantly use it outside the home.
