Nero Vision Express 3 shows the following details in the project summary (the last step before re-encoding and burning begins):
Audio SmartEncoding ratio: 0.0%
Video SmartEncoding ratio: 100.0%
What does 0% and 100% mean? Does it mean that re-encoding is triggered due to audio or is it because of the video? Does 100% mean no re-encoding?
Appreciate your advice on this...
JT

BJ, what do you mean? NVE does show these two different values. I just don't know what they represent.

I looked at great many of hits when I tried Google, but could not find the answer. Many hits talk about aspect ratio, etc. I just couldn't find any post that would explain this particular NVE detail.

a ratio is not ussually expressed in % (though it can be)
but which way does it go?
100% meaning compressed 100% (what?) or no further compression at all ..
0% must mean no further compression , but how do you get 100% compression ?"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I should have done this before, but didn't think of it. I tried using mpeg file that I knew had illegal resolution for DVD video (480x480). NVE gave the following info: Video SmartEncoding ratio: 0%
So I guess 0% value means that re-encoding will take place.
I also looked at the other files I used before and they had legal DVD resolution so Video SmartEncoding ratio was 100%, only Audio ratio was 0%, which would indicate that video stream didn't need re-encoding, only audio did.
The audio is MPEG1Layer2, and that alone is illegal for DVD video (I think). I suspect that if the audio was either Linear PCM or AC-3, Nero would not do any re-encoding at all.
Is there any way to instruct NVE to ignore illegal audio, or is there some authoring program that would accept MPEG1Layer2 audio and not reencode? I am not sure if standalone DVD player would play such disc, but it would be worth to try. I read somewhere that many DVD players don't have a problem.
The other option would be to convert the audio strean in MPEG2 file -- but I don't know if there is a fast way to do this. NVE is very slow at this.
Thanks,
JT
