  1. HEY GUYS TELL ME HOW TO MAKE AN DVD MENU !!!!1!1!!

Just kidding. I have a problem where my Philips DVP642 plays my authored DVD's menu, but extremely shaky.

Google has told me this is called "bob" or "line twitter" that's great and all, but I have no idea how to fix it.

I previously used TMPGenc, but switched to DVDLab to make more professional looking menus. Both create this same effect.

    The Process I use:
I use AVISynth and CCE to convert the movie (avi or SVCD), I know this has nothing to do with the menu problem, just wanted to point out I'm not a complete retard. I convert to 16:9 NTSC for compatibility

Once I have the elementary streams I go to DVDLab. Usually I search google images for a nice background and download that in .jpg format.

I'm using 4:3 NTSC template in DVDLab for the menu. As my TV is a 4:3 NTSC

Everything goes fine, but when I play it I get that "line tweeter"

I don't have another DVDPlayer to test with :-\

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for reading my novel.

Don't know if this will help you but let's try...

This problem may be caused by interlace flicker. That means, your pics are too sharp, you've got to get them a little blured. You can use Photoshop or any other application to blur the image just a little <Filter>; <Blur>. Sony's DVD Architect 3.0a has an option to reduce interlace flicker on menus, stills and clips (it's not freeware).

A few tips that should help reduce, if not eliminate the problem.

    1. Prep you images in photoshop (or similar) first. Resize to the correct resolution (for DVD Lab that is 720 x 540 for PAL or NTSC).

    2. Apply a slight gaussian blur (0.02) or a slight vertical directional blur.

    3. Avoid patterns with high contrasts and thin lines or horizontal borders.

    4. Prepare menu text in photoshop as seperate layer. Apply slight blur and drop shadows here.

    5. Avoid using serif fonts (serif fonts has the little lips and edges at the base - e.g. Time New Roman) and avoid fonts that have very thin horizontal features.

    6. If you still get shimmer, try shifting the fonts (or even entire image) up or down 1 pixel
