I know others have had simlar problems with their DVDs freezing in the middle or near the end but my problem is in the beginning. As soon as it plays for a second it will freeze. It'll start to play if I fast forward but after a second it freezes again. I used TMPGEnc Plus to encode, TMPGEnc DVD Author to author, and Nero to burn at 4x. The media brand is Ridata.

  2. I assume that the disk is playing well in the PC. Can you try it on another DVD player - say your friend's? If the problem recurs then it is probably the media.

Also as you must already be knowing, commercial DVDs are pressed and their surface has better light reflecting capability. Try cleaning your player's lens.

On my Pioneer DV-K301C the freezing and stuttering went away after a cleaning job. I used a lens cleaner to clean the lens and a hair drier (set on cold) for cleaning dust inside the player.

    1) Why are you using Nero to burn when DVD AUthor has its own built-in burning program?

    2) Which DVD writer are you using? I had an AOpen which was next to useless when used with an older Pioneer. In the end it was cheaper to replace it with an NEC.
