  1. Just wondering if anyones heard of this before.I have a Tevion HDD DVD recorder which for the most part (excluding the odd crash) works o.k but just lately i have been havin problems with playback of DVD's, eveythings fine except for vocal audio which is none existent.Ambient sound and music plays fine its just the dialogue that can't be heard.Anyone seen this before?, any help would be good cheers.

    That sounds like 5.1 Dolby audio with the center channel missing.That's where the dialog often is, AFAIK.

    Are these commercial DVDs or ones that have been converted? I'm not familiar with that player, Does it properly handle 5.1 audio? If you created the DVD and the player doesn't do 5.1, you might want to use stereo for the conversions instead. Most set top players can downmix the 5.1 to stereo, I believe. All my Shrink backups use 5.1 and they seem to play fine on most everything.

    Check the audio settings. Brother had the same problem recently (different player) and it was how the audio was set to down-mix.

  4. In answer to your query, yes they are commercial DVD's, and i recently pluged the sucker into a new 5.1 system so it sounds like you guys have hit the nail so to speak BUT, stay tuned i could be back cos you are talking to a relative noob here.
