After trying it out i'm really disapointed with divx converter not the codec itself.

we can not choose the final size, resolution, mp3 bitrate, subtitle colour and position on screen.
i havent found any of these options that i was able to choose with dr divx(except the subtitles bit that werent supported in the first place)

I wont even mention how the subtitles look on screen(are they on a diet?)

im disapointed.

nerodigital support for the above is a lot better.

hoping upgrades will fix this.

when creating interactive menus divx converter crashed something "C ++ problem" so i cant comment on that bit.

i was waiting for divx 6 because mainly of the subs support, i dont know if any of you tried it but they are so thin, people that have a large living room i think will have some difficulty reading them, and some letters are sort of transparent.

divx 6 against divx 5 dont see a lot of difference.

i think i will stick with dr divx and srt2bmp for the subtitles.

Did you ever get the program to work for you? If not, let me know and hopefully we'll find a solution for you.

In general, though, you are correct the DivX Converter is limited at the moment in the options it allows. It was designed above all as a very simple encoder for people who just want their file to play on a standalone DivX certified device. It may not be fully featured enough for your encoding needs.

well ... kind of.

one of the features that i was waiting for on divxconverter was to be able to handle multiple audio/subtitles but unfortunaly thee subs looked awfully bad on my divx player, the sound was to low and the size option was gone.

decided to unistall divxconverter, reinstall drdivx.

i encode the video with drdivx and then use a very good tool(srt2bmp) that has fuse in its core to add multiple xsubs or audio tracks to the divx5.2.1.

the final result is awesome to say the least, perfect multiple subs no transparent carachters i can position the subs as i want and more

A big shoutout for Vsr and Zhnujm at Doom9 for this superb tool.

Sorry for going on about the subs but as an european that is an important/educational feature.

Divxnetworks should have a look at it and learn something with them!

As a long time Divx user and thrilled that I have two inexpensive stand-alone DVD players that play DIvx format, I would advise all to be patient with the Divx people.

It IS very important for Divx customers to post the issues with Divx 6 and the tools that they have.

My history with them is that they are really good people that will listen nad base their fixes around their customers comments.

This is a version 1 product and I have no doubt that Divxlabs as well as other companies will come up with a variety of front ends for the codec.

I really would advise all that are posting their frustrations on this fantastic forum, also contribute to the Divx forums as well.

In any case, we clearly have some work to do with Converter, to make it a more effective application. And you guys are absolutely right, we do take feedback very seriously, so I encourage you post here and on other forums. We'll get the message.

I guess you work for Divx !! I meant what I said and I know how easy it is to critcise, how important it is to have standards so that compressed video is FINALLY being recognized and there are inexpensive DVD players that are on the market place. If I am not mistaken, I believe Amazon had the Philips DVD player that supports Divx as their number one selling DVD player. I think I paid about $49 for mine. Then my brother and his girlfriend got theirs.

I am an IT person and understand about what it takes to develop software and no matter how well tested, PC software is in incredible bear to distribute to PCs with 1000s of different configurations, hardware, software, etc. I have been humbled on that one myself, trying to globally distribute PC software among the 1100 users for a large non-profit.

What the top software vendors do is to listen to their customers sincerely, then make important bug changes quickly and keep listening and continuous improvement on their software. In that way, they can establish a loyal customer base that will realize that if their are bugs or issues, that it is a matter of time and their might be a temporary work around.

With the Divx package so inexpensive, and having xvid screw me and my PC up so many times, that I feel xvid is a real negative although it probably is great for those who like to "tinker under the hood".

But I do believe those who say how great xvid as opposed to Divx are totally full of crap. It might have been the forum manager here who posted some ridiculous remark that "finally Divx did something creative", about Divx 5.2 or something like that. Anytime someone has to put down another product to give they're product credibility is usually a solid sign that they are full of crap. I think it is way more important to look at the larger picture, see the "forest from the trees" rather than nitpick.

A standard of compressed video that is incorporated on stand alone DVD players I believe is essential, especially if it is NOT controlled by Microsoft, Apple, Sony, MIAA and RIAA.
Microsoft and Apple have both made remarks about taking over the multi-media business and basically squashing creativity, competition, individual effort and smaller companies.

I also find it so ironic that most of the criticism I have seen on the divx.com forum is how Dr. Divx is going to be replaced and won't work on the new codec. The people who have been successfully using Dr. Divx must have darn quiet, because I have seen mostly criticism posted for it and no indication of the popularity of it. Where were these users to help post positive messages about Dr. Divx. !!

i was trying to convert some videos from mpg to xvid/divx

autogk cant handle mpeg1 atm

too time consuming and have probably forgotten how to do it the long way using vdub besweet etc (basically the autogk tools) but setting them up myself

tmpeg xpress
files were fine but as xvid they were of weird sizes not what i asked for

so tried the new divx package
divx converter was crap
poor picture quality and AV sync

then used the divx codec in tmpeg express
good results
no sync issues
perfect size
very fast only 10 minutes to convert a 30 minute 300mb mpg into a 175mb divx avi
also tmpeg express is so easy for cropping and adjusting contrast if picture is too light or too dark

so happy with it

the divx 5.2 codec would probably have produced results which were as good but strangely its not in my utilities folder
i must have deleted it when i started using xvid to encode everything and decode divx playback

still the codec works fine
shame about the irritating divx logo for 10/15 secs at the start of playback
will have a fiddle should be able to remove it by decoding with xvid or turning it off in some setting panel as its not on the video itself just a logo applied on top by the player

I have the same problem. Will the new converter recognize and use third party AC3 filters? If I open the same file with graphedit, the 3rd party filters are used just fine.

New version 6.01 just released. Hopefully this will solve the issue that a number of users are having:

"DivX Converter has successfully converted 0 files due to insufficient disk space"

...even though there is, say, 100 gigabytes free on the hard drive!

The new codec itself seems just fine. The DivX Converter --- well that's another story altogether (check out the forums on divx.com).

it worked fine for me with a 3rd party filter, but im not using it anymore lack of control.

went back for drdivx.

Just reiterate, yes, the logo is not embedded in the video, it's just part of the decoding and can be turned off pretty easily.

Start > DivX > DivX Codec > Decoder Configuration Utilty > Toolbar : Preferences > "Show DivX logo watermark"

It's pretty silly, not sure exactly why we do that.

yep i found it just after posting

the codec itself is fine
and the idea of a drag drop and convert program for all format to divX is great
others like autogk took a while to get it right
so i suppose the converter isnt bad for a first attempt

hopefully negative comments about the convertor wont put the creators off
