When I crunch DV footage into VCD compliant files using the TMPGEnc template for Pal VCD, Nero complains that the file isn't VCD-compliant. When I demux and remux the file with TMPEGEnc MPEG tools, I get an error about some sections having problems, and the file gets muxed. Then Nero finds it acceptable.
Any clues what's going on here, and how to get the files right the first time around?

There's probably nothing wrong with the VCD encodes, but Nero can't tell the difference between an xvid avi and a proper mpeg anyhow.

So you're saying I can just go ahead and burn them in, switching "compliance mode" off from Nero, and in 99% of the cases they'll work?

I would turn off Nero's compliance and burn a test to RW.
If in doubt, get VCDGear, and use it's mpeg - > mpeg fix. Much faster than demux/remux.Cheers, Jim

I'll bet you have at least 3 or 4 shops nearby that have players on sale.
Take the disk with you, and tell the salesperson you're not buying unless the player plays it properly.
Then test it in as many players as his/her patience will allowCheers, Jim

Hahaha...
Well yeah, that's a possibility. However I'm assuming this is a common problem and people have already tested this umpteen times over?

No. Tmpgenc (using the templates) usually produces a compliant mpg.
Are you actually making a VCD, or multiple mpeg-1's on DVD?Cheers, Jim

A regular, plain old VCD. I input a single file into TMPGEnc and convert it using the VCD template. Not a single file I've ever VCD'ed with Nero seems to work. This is what I get:
The following problems were found:
- stream encoding which is invalid for a [Super] Video CD -
Well I've selected VCD from the Nero menu, not SVCD, and I've encoded it as VCD. Nero just seems to be lazy and shows the same general stream error for both (although if you try a SVCD, you get a size error in addition to the stream nag.)

Have you updated Nero recently?
Maybe you should?
If you have, and still get this error, contact Nero support.
Are you sure you're selecting the correct template when starting Nero?
Are we talking Nero burning rom or Nerovision Express?
If it's NVE, and you using version 3?
Does this seem like pulling teeth?Cheers, Jim
