Sony: We Can't Stop PSP Porn Release

The hand-held PlayStation uses the universal media disc, or UMD, format, enabling the console to play games or videos recorded on optical discs 2.3 inches in diameter.

Pornography producers will soon release sexually explicit discs for Sony's Latest News about Sony PlayStation Portable Latest News about PlayStation Portable game console, most of whose users are minors.

Two makers of adult movies plan to sell their products for the console as early as July, and several other pornographers are apparently ready to follow, Japanese newspaper the Asahi Shimbun reported Friday.

"It is utterly undesirable, but we cannot stop software makers from selling such videos," a public relations official at Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said.

The hand-held PlayStation uses the universal media disc, or UMD, format, enabling the console to play games or videos recorded on optical discs 2.3 inches in diameter.

The UMD format, developed by the Sony group, can play moving images for about 120 minutes. Much like the DVD, UMD discs can be produced and distributed by any company.

Sony released the PlayStation Portable in Japan in December and in North America in March. It had shipped a combined 2.97 million of the game consoles by the end of March in Japan and North America.

I think it's a stupid idea, since most people only want to watch porn in the privacy of their own home, or bedroom, and there they can watch it on their tvs, rather than a tiny 4 inch screen

I promise you, this will be on national news before too long -- some idiot will get arrested for watching Pr0n on/at the bus/subway/city park/airplane and it will become a big federal case of 'private property vs. public indecency' -- "you can't display pornographic images in a public area", "go to hell, I wasn't 'displaying' them, if you don't like it, don't look & mind your own business"

there was so much hype right before the launch and all the game stores were pushing pre-sales like the damn things were gonna be more rare than PS2 was at launch
I went to BestBuy after work on lauch day and they literally had a mountain of them. a cute sales girl was walking around with 2 of them that you could play with. the one she handed me already had a ton of dead pixels and that damned square button was jacked...
I bought a GBA for $65 and lost interest when the GameBoy Player for GameCube came out.
there's no way I'm gonna drop $250.00 on something as fragile as the PSP -- I'd either lose it or break it!

I had one at launch but ended up selling it. When the price drops for the PSP and the 1 gig memory stick, I'll pick one up again. The main reason I want one is I can transfer DVD movies to the memory card, and watch it on the go. With the 1gig card, it would cost over $350, that's just too much for me.
