    Hello, i wondered if someone could advise on my problem. I am converting my dvd's to wmv in the following way;
    rip to single vob file using DVD Shrink
    Convert vob to avi using Virtualdub-mpeg using MS Mpeg4-V2
    Convert avi to wmv using Media Endoder 9 with these settings -
    bit rate - 280kbps
    frame rate - 20
    Audio bit rate 64 or 128 kbps 44khz
    CBR Windows media 9 audio codec
    CBR or VBR Windows media 8 or 9 video codec

    I am able to get a wmv file but have never managed to produce one that has smooth playback or doesnt produce audio/video sync problems later in the file. I always seem to get a detectable pause every few seconds.

    I have tried lower video bitrates and lower and higher frame rates with the same result.

    I have also tried converting directly from a vob file in media encoder but the wmv file plays back as if in slow motion. Can anyone help to resolve this? Thanks in advance

    I like to use PocketDivxEncoder or Fairuse Wizard. Both produce very good results for PPC viewing. I have an IPaq 3765 and play the files with Betaplayer. I have had excellent results!

    Fairuse Wizard can handle DVDs or ISO files and PocketDivxEncoder requires a single (VOB) file. You can produce either with DVD Decrypter.
