I have a very loud LPCM WAV (stereo 1536 kbps) that I want to edit before converting to AC3. The dubbing is loud, when it gets really loud, it clips/clicks a bit. The opening song in the beginning is softer than the normal dialogue. Is there a way I can edit it in Cool Edit Pro?

I have tried these settings in this order in Cool Edit Pro:

    1. Amplify -10
    2. Clip Restoration > Normal
    3. Normalize 80%

The result is better in the sense that the volume was lowered but some of the clips and clicks can still be heard despite the clip restoration. Is there anything else I can do?

*By clicks and clips, I mean that in Cool Edit Pro with the color bar at the bottom, it goes all the way to red during those loud parts and that's when it clips.

  2. sounds like the master audio file was recorded too loud (more of distortion), in that case their really isnt much you can do to fix it, unless you have access to the actual source file itself--

I would normalise first, then adjust volume for specific areas if required. Apply a restoration to sections that need it, then as a final step, smooth any clipped areas.

you could also try the click and pop remover on the clicks you can't remove with the clip restore feature.
