  3. sorry mate i used the word jerky so you understood framerate problems

the frames are fine what i meant to say was that the quality of the produced video(3500bps) really lacks in comparison with the original one which is very good

3500 is pretty low. How long is the file (running time)

  5. the file is about 70min long(700MB the bitrate of the wmv is at 1600 bps the quality is dvd-like)

but what i really want to know is why when i convert a DVD to mpeg1(1500bps to 1800bps) i get avery good quality result
and now with this wmv file even with the 3500bps the result is far worse than the original

For mpeg-2 you could (and probably should, by the sounds of it) push the bitrate up to around 7500 - 8400. You cannot compare the bitrate between two different types of codecs and expect to make any sense.

  7. mpeg1 is very similar to mpeg2
and in the past i have made great quality mpeg2 only up to 3000bps

my question is why this doesnt work when the source of video is a wmv?

Try swapping the field order; TMPGEnc sometimes gets this wrong.
