  1. Our cheaper DVD player (was a surround sound system and DVD player all in one from Wal-Mart) is a fine DVD player usually (has no problem w/ commerical wide-screen movies), but it won't play the wide-screen movies I put on DVDs.

Now, my DVD player in my PS2 *will*.

Is there any special way I can get the cheaper DVD player to play it correctly so that it doesn't put it full screen and therefore you miss the left/right sides of the movies? Thanks!

  2. By the way, these were from varoius formats. One or more was Xvid, a few Divx, etc.

I believe there are a couple of points you need to flag the video to get all players to recogise the format. If you don't put it in both, you may not get correct results. First, the video needs to be flagged as 16:9 when you encode it. The the disk needs to be authored so that the disk is flagged as 16:9.

What are you encoding and authoring with ?

  4. I use VSO's DivxtoDVD to encode and CopytoDVD to burn. I tried setting the "Force 16:9" option but it works for my PS2, but not for the other DVD player. Thanks for your time and help
