A friend recommended this capture guide to me, so I spent almost a week hunting for it.
It seems to have some pretty good advice, and I've adopted a lot of the techniques.
BUT, it's obviously quite old (2002, ancient in the computer world)....
What I'm looking for your opinions on specifically is the area covered on page 10 and then on pages 19-22.
I've used the methods he talks about here with mixed results - works great on JLU capped from CartoonNetwork, but gives shit results with The Batman capped from WB.
anyway, here's the guide, http://home.comcast.net/~xylob/The_G00z_Capture_Bible.pdf
TIA!!

I've seen this guide, it sucks horribly. Whoever wrote it says LOTS OF STUPID STUFF in there. He clearly knew more about making pretty PDFs than he did video.
At least half of page 10 is crap.
Pages 19-22 are so old they're useless.
Incorrect crap like that is actually why I started to share what I knew on sites like this. I feel sorry for anybody that reads something like that and believes it. Honest advice? Delete it and forget it ever existed. It is not a "capture bible" but more like "how to make mediocre video in virtualdub".
Something similar (but correct!) is supposed to be here:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/convert/virtualdub/xvid.htm
... but it's not done yet as you can see.
The Batman is probably 29.97 in the USA and not 23.976.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I figured you'd be one of the first to reply.
I've seen your site and read pretty much all of it.
I really appreciate that you've taken the time to share you knowledge and I have often referred folks to www.lordsmurf.com.
However...
You make it quite clear that you feel MMC is the way to go. I have had nothing but problems using it though (when are you gonna finish the guide you linked to??).
What he says on page 10 about frame rates makes sense IN THEORY, but the practicality and reality of the procedures he talks about are questionable...
Which is probably why I've had such inconsistent results.
I've come up with "my own" process for capturing and converting to DVD, using various sources (lordsmurf, Menasor, Squall, and even g00z) and I am very pleased with the results -- but there's always room for improvement, right?
Also, my process only really works with my animated stuff, when I try to use the same process to convert the rest of my VHS library to DVD, the results are horrendous."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright
