What are the reasons for TMPGEnc Plus v2.5 returning an unsupported error when trying to open a VDub frameserver file?

Got one of two computers doing this and can't figure out why. Both computers are identically set up and one has no trouble processing VDub frameserver inputs while the other won't. Have tried reinstalling the client, and all the suggestions in the common TMPGEnc errors thread but no go so far. It will happily convert any input I throw at it apart from when it goes through the VDub frameserver.

  2. In vdub, select audio, no audio. Try it again.
If it works, you know it's because of the source video's audio codec (probably MP3).

I'm using the copy of VDubMod that comes packaged up as part of AutoGK and it doesn't have an Audio option section in the drop down menus.

Any idea how I go about disabling the audio processing with VDubMod?

Okay, I've found the disable stream option within VDubMod, but it doesn't make any difference. The audio stream is indeed VBR MP3 but even with it disabled, TMPGEnc still refuses to accept the vdr as a valid input.

Anyone with some bright ideas as to how to get around this would be very welcome.

    Thanks

  5. Have you enabled the frameserving client by running virtualdubs 'auxsetup.exe' and clicking the button to install it?

Yes. I can frameserve some files just fine, but not others. I don't know why or what the factor is that's causing problems with some files and not others. In either case, I can open *anything* directly into TMPGEnc without any problem whatsoever. The issue only arises when trying to frameserve into TMPGEnc.

I really want to frameserve though because I want to use the logoaway filter for VDub.

  7. Try saving the vdub frameserved file as .avi instead of .vdr
You do have the vfapi reader installed?
Another method is to create a one line avs file, using the .vdr as input, and with avisynthi installed, open the .avs in tmpgenc.

It could be the order of your VFAPI plug-ins.
It has been my experience that of the 3 AVI file readers in the TMPGenc plug-in list, only the 'AVI VFW compatibility Reader' can handle frame-serving.
So if any of the other readers ie. 'AVI2(Open DML)' or 'DirectShow Multimedia' have a higher priority in the list and therefore are trying to open the frame-server then you will get an 'unsupported' message.
Try either temporarily turning off the other readers or give the 'AVI VFW' reader the highest priority.

(These are found in 'Option' -> 'Environmental Setting' -> 'VFAPI plig-in')

Thanks for this suggestion. I have played around with the order of the various plug-ins as you suggested but unfortunately it makes no difference. Nice thought though, and thanks for suggesting it.

I don't have the diskspace available to do this.

    No I don't.

Could you please give me an example script to do this? I use AviSynth for converting full NTSC -> PAL and it works very well but I only use some standard scripts for doing this exact thing that I got from others in here which I then saved for future reference. I am no AviSynth expert by any stretch of the imagination even though I do use it regularly.

Given up now. I'll just have to accept that TMPGEnc won't open this file frameserved and I'll encode it directly instead. Woulda been nice to use that logoaway filter but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

  12. If you know Avisynth, you can import in the script VirtualDub filters (logoaway in the case). For reference read the documentation that come with avisynth instalation.

  13. I didn't say you had to save an avi, I said to save the frameserved (normally named .vdr) file as a frameserved .avi. All you do is change the extention.
Install the vfapi reader and set it's priority to the top in Environmental settings in tmpgenc.
The one line avisynth would simply be thus:
    AviSource("D:\Path\test.vdr")
Use vdub's frameserver to save a file called "test.vdr"
Save the avisynth script (the one line above) as "test.avs"
    Open "test.avs" with tmpgenc.
