Hi,
I have a video clip comprising 2 Cds.
CD 1 has a audio bitrate of 123kbs and CD 2 has a audio bitrate of 139kbs.
I want to convert avi to dvd , so , when I use the Bitrate Calculator, Which bitrate do I use 123 or 139 ??
The video clip is NTSC 23,976
video bitrate for CD1 is 1205kbs and CD2 is 834kbs
The run time for CD1 is 1:13:15 and CD2 is 1:38:36
Can you please assist.
Thanks
Exabyte

If you want to convert avi to dvd you have only to check the bitrate of your DVD, it's irrivelant the bitrate of your avi, you will convert them to MP2, or AC3 or PCM.

Hi,
My understanding is that when you have 2 CDs or Clips then you take the collective run time of the 2 CDs and use that to calculate the bitrate.
Now the run time for the 2 Cds are 2hrs 51 minutes 51 seconds.
when using bitrate calculator , the video runtime and the audio bitrate is used to get the Calculated bitrate which is then used in TMPGEnc to do the conversion.
Now, when I use the audio bitrate of 123 kbs , the Calculated bitrate is 3423 kbs.
when I use the audio bitrate of 139kbs I get a Calculated bitrate of 3407kbs.
Does this not have an effect on the output file ??
Can you please tell me what is the best plan of action ?
Which Calculated bitrate do I use ?
All the video clips I checked have the same audio bitrate for both CD1 and CD2

You are not listening. The bitrate on the CDs is irrelevent because it is (probably) MP3, which is not usuable for DVD. You will have to convert the audio to a DVD compliant audio format (AC3, MP2, PCM). It is the converted bitrate that you need to include in the calculation. I would use AC3 2 channel at 192 kbs.
Either way, you will get a very small bitrate because of the total runtime. 2 hr 51 mins is a lot to put on a disk at full D1. Persoanlly, I would consider splitting it across 2 DVDs. If you can't do that then consider half-D1, which would give you an acceptable picture at low 3000 bitrates.Read my blog here.
