  1. I'm pretty new at video conversion on a PC, but I have a encrypted DVD and i need to take a minute snippet of it at a reasonable size to insert in a powerpoint presentation. What would be the best way to go about this? Thanks!

  2. I'm thinking it'll have to be in .mpg or .mov format.

Setting aside for the moment any copyright issues regarding the use of "snippets" or the "decryption of encrypted material", your choice is dependent upon how you're going to play the media (internal/MCI, external Directshow, or Quicktime/Other) and what platform is it going to be shown on (PC's only, Mac's only, Both, etc). Also, what kind of horsepower does your target machine(s) have?

You can use ANY media type successfully within PPT (AVI, MPG, MOV, WMV, Real, MP4, MKV, OGM, etc), it just depends on which of the ~8 methods you use to import it.
    Most people use...

    1. [Insert | Movie from File], but there is also

    2. [Insert | Hyperlink], and

    3. Drag & Drop, or

    4. Copy & Paste, and then there's Objects...

    5. [Insert | Object | Create From File], or

    6. [Insert | Object | Video Clip], or alternately

    7. [Insert | Object | Media Clip], and finally the universally capable...

    8. [Insert | Object | Package]

Suggestions: If you were using only recent PC's, I'd stick with WMV9. For universality, a high bitrate MPEG1.
