I've about had it with google for internal site searches. I'd like to find a script/setup that will give a small/medium website it's own search engine.

I'm sick of searching google for scripts, keep coming up dry. Try here now...

Can run on any of the following platforms:
    - ColdFusion 5
    - PHP 3/4
    - ASP
    - CGI

    Requirements:
    - FREE! ... maybe low cost with a demo
    - able to exclude files/folders and keywords
    - HTML output interface can be customized
    - must use a database, either a TXT file or MS ACCESS files
    - run on Windows server
    - install file/documentation for the non-programmer

    Nice options:
    - ability to scan database and remove unwanted indexed pages

You might try mamma. It is the mother of all search engines.

For now, I think I'm going to use this: http://www.picosearch.com
As soon as I can I find, learn or afford another on-site method, I'll switch.
If anybody has more suggestions, post them. Thanks.

Yeah, Zoom is what I use most of the time. For some of the smaller sites that I build for clients, I use simple text- or meta-based searching. It does help if you're a programmer, though. <need a better wink smiley

So is it site specific? Or can I buy it and use it on any number of sites I make. It would be nice to use them on all my projects, not just one.

This was never addresses anywhere that I saw. May have missed it, but didn't see it.

Just what is your problem pal ??

(when at work) I use it exhaustively (thanks to fast connects)
I'm always on google. I search for just about everything.
There are things I can't find, cause it boils down to the right
syntax people use in there documents/pdfs/html etc.
    .
But, I have my main page setup to googles Advanced Search. It's
there, that I do all my searches. I fill in the items I don't
want to turn up, in the last field. Helps out a lot.
In fact, its come to the point where I have a main document (wordpad,
of all things, right) where I log my every findings:

    URL
    SUB
    DES
    NOTES

body of text; scripts; code snips; formulas; you name it.. goes here.

Later, I often refere back to this (on going) document.

That's the level of magnitude I've approached at this point in time.
Later, I'm going to take everything down (above field layout) and
incorporate it into a user database for evean faster and flexable
    search/filter finds

EDITED .. I had a good example of an Advanced Search filled in,
but I must have deleted it. Oh well, sorry. Anyways.

Nah, you can put it on as many of your own sites as you want. It's just that some of my clients would rather not deal with the databases and such when they have less than say 20 pages on their site.

I would like a new site search for the forum or forum archive cause google doesn't seem to spider them all.

It must support over 250 000 pages without killing my server when you search.

I've been using this as my search engine. http://atomz.com/applications/search/how.htm I use the free version, I don't even think they offer it anymore, it is offsite though and you would have to pay for it since you have a such a huge site. The search results are fully customizable, unless they looked at the URL it would be seemless.

The free version includes ads so I'm looking for on-site search engine myself....
