    Hi, not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes anyway....

    I am looking to buy a new desktop base unit to update mine a bit.I was going to get a laptop next year but my pc needs updating now! I have the following specs but not knowing much about this thought I would ask the opinion as to which if any are suitable for downloading from camcorder and editing etc. I have up to £500 to spend.

    They are all capable.... choosing one with firewire onboard the MB would be preferable but not neccesary. Larger HD's are always preferable too. Of course everthing bigger better faster is preferable. :P

  3. PC configs are ok except for small suggestions

    * Go for motherboard which supports higher FSB than 533.

    * RAM of 512 is ok but I would recommend 1 GB DDR memory. Soon I am also upgrading to 1GB.

    * Instead of having on big harddisk go for 2 harddisk of 80 or 100 GB each on the SATA channel.

    * If your motherboard supports RAID you could consider that too for having data redundancy.
    When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months.

  5. Two hard disks are definitely recommended for Camcorder movie conversions. If you are also going to play games then get a AGP card with 128MB (min) and pixel shader capability, e.g. GeForce 3 or better; Radeon 9600, etc.

    512 MB RAM should suffice but 1 GB is even better.

    On the whole it will not be wise to economise now only to find that a year later your new configuration is not adequete.
