It wont change my mind either. The damage has already been done.
Free music downloads, are Sony taking the piss. They should offer thousands of pounds in settlement in each infected PC, just like they receive thousands of pounds in settlement from individuals who download MP3s illegally.
Its all take, take, take and no giving back. -
I am glad to see State coffers won't be filled with frivilous monies but instead consumers will be compensated. I have two CDs already registered with Sony. Looks like I'll be mailing them out to them and receive 8 Albums as replacements. That's a much better deal then I could have dreamed of. I thought for sure Sony was just going to pay big fines without any recourse to the end consumer. The only people to profit from the lawsuits would have been lawyers and State Politicians. I am glad to see Sony decided to not allow that injustice compounded with their previous transgression and instead offered compensation directly to those effected.
My opinion of Sony is unchanged. In trying to protect their intellectual property they made a technological mistake and harmed some consumers. Their reputation with me was destroyed long ago after purchasing expensive equipment only to find it failed or at best was mediocre when compared to similiarly cheaper priced products. Will I continue to buy Sony products? Hardware NO, Media YES.
I was never directly effected by Sony's mistake in this case and in the long run instead of just myself benefitting from this mistake my entire family will get several albums for free. Their reputation to me is unchanged. They are still the fence sitting slime balls they were before that sell hardware that advances the media formats they choose to fight against and said hardware is inferior to cheaper available models from some kid built on some island in the Pacific Ocean.
I'm just glad to see they aren't filling State Coffers but instead providing compensation to those effected. Thanks Sony! -

Huh?
Sony who?Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -
I assume that all of the offered downloads will be loaded with DRM.

Moved to Off-Topic. This isn't video news.
Thanks,

Maybe you'll hop on an overturned bus because you purchased a ride last week.
Sony lost my $$$ when the tried to force Beta on everybody. Their complete disregard for existing standards in an effort to push proprietary formats on customers is shameful.
The addition of assinine DRM is just one more in the long list of offenses. Sony hasn't gotten a single dollar out of me (hardware or media) since the late 70's, and I don't see that changing any time in the future.
