I really enjoyed the movie. A Great Starting Battle, The Duels were all Great. My favorite is the one battle with Yoda.

Weak writing, over produced, poor acting. But it was an improvement over the last two. C+

The fight scenes were very well done. And the love scene between Jar Jar and Padme was tasteful, all things considered. I heard DNA tests confirm he's the the real Father of Luke and Leia.

I thought it was great, but 1 thing bothered me..

    MINOR SPOILER:

In ROTJ, Luke states he has no memories of his mother, but Leia does...How is this possible due to what happened?!

    Thanks

Well yeah, its just further proof that lucas really had no overall story until after the 1st movie. Meaning he's been making it up as he went along for the most part.

Still, given that he's done a pretty good job.

Good show. Missed some the DUAL and Palpatine saved Veda when I brought my 2 kids to the washroom after 2 coke and popcorn !

General Grevious was less manacing than in the Clone Wars.

Where was Ajax Ventrious... the Sith want-to-be ?

It's sad to see mighty Yoda had to escape through a tunnel.

    Great film!!!

Popcorns should be banned from cinemas, nothing worse than trying to match a film and someone behind you munching on them.

    my question now is:

for when the last 3 episodes?

theres a shortage of sci-fi films being produced, what happened?
    is it a dying thing?

  17. Could (should) have been better. BUT I will see it again.

My opinion in more detail (SPOILER warning):

Fights & battle scenes - great.
Palpatine (the character, the actor, his motivations, actions, methods) -perfect.
Jedi Council as a whole - perfect
    Obi-Wan - a bit weak-minded with Anakin considering the master-pupil relationship
    Padme - perfect
    The Clones - perfect
    Mace & Yoda - great
    The Rebel leaders - great
General whatever - Didn't like him (it). BTW, why does a robot wear a cape and how come a robot coughs?
Anakin - Crap. His flip from light to dark side happened too fast, with little real incidents involved in the change and his inner fight to resist could have been done better by a more imaginative director. Once he flipped though, the character (and the acting for it) was spot on. But for the first part of the film Anakin still appeared to me mostly as a spoiled shallow brat (like in the 2nd film).

    Best liked moments/scenes/plot points:
-Mace defeats Palpatine (I feared Lucas would make Mace go out with a whimper).
-Palpatine tells Anakin "They want you to spy on me don't they..."
    -Anakin almost kills Padme

    Worst moment/plot point
    - Obi-Wan does NOT finish off Anakin and just walks away!!! HOW? He either considers Anakin as a deadly enemy (he was a Sith now) so his duty was to kill him. Or he has lingering feelings of frienship for Anaking in which case he would have wanted to end his suffering.
    It wasn't me.

Can touch on 2 points of yours.

One Grevious does't appear to be a "robot" those are very human/animal eyes. So I guess its kinda like vader... or cobra commander.

Two, I just don't think Obiwan could make himself do it, also legs cut off and currently burning next to a pool of lava is GENERALLY pretty dead.

Yeah, on point one you are totally correct. He did appear to have some biological core under all that hardware. My mistake here.

But on the second one I'm still not convinced. It would have been easy to make Obi-Wan run away as e.g. Palpatine & troops arrive or something like that. The way it was done, it is like Lucas intended to underline the fact that Vader was deliberately left alive (maybe because he was needed to "bring balance to the Force", sort of like Gandalf "perceiving" that Gollum has a role to play). I could buy that from say Yoda but the Obi-Wan character was not at that level of forethought.

Sure, I'm probably too constipated on this, after all it is entertainment first and I do believe it was much better than 1 and 2. But there's nothing wrong with wanting perfection is it?
    It wasn't me.

Saw it last night. It was OK. But, I guess I'm spoiled because I liked 4, 5 and 6 better than episodes 1, 2 or 3. They just seemed more "swashbuckling" than 1, 2 or 3 ... like the later episodes weren't trying to impress the moviegoer (but did anyway) and the first three episodes were trying to impress the moviegoer (but only did to a point).

    @ cor1,

If Obiwan were to finish off Anakin aka Vader, the story line cannot flow to episode 4, 5 and 6 as there is no Vader(unless George do the back-to-the-future thingy). True Jedi never kill defendless ... that was why Anakin struggle to kill Duku when ordered by Palpatine. That was why Obiwan, being a true Jedi, didn't kill Anakin for he was helpless. He just took his light saber which was later given to Luke.

PS - George could have split the Episode 3 to part 1 & 2. Episode 3 story line is too abrupt. It will be very exciting to see Anakin dual with Ajax Ventrius and General Grevious kidnaping Palpatine.. as shown in the Clone War cartoon siries.

I remember hearing Sam Jackson talk about wanting a big death scene when he signed on to do the prequels. I was sure Lucas would have done something nice. And he did (I won't spoil it ).

    Kevin

EDIT - As far as Obi Wan not finishing off Anakin. Remember he had no offensive weapons. He didn't have a blaster on him. And since hes a light-side Jedi he can't fry him. His only other way to finish him off would have been to force throw his saber at him to cut him up. But as suggested earlier he was pretty well cooked (and the fact that this is a prequel and its predetermined he survives)

There was one good thing about the film. The appearance of Jar-Jar Binks was both brief and silent.

  26. Why Jar Jar didn't die like ALL the rest of the characters?. Lucas didn't give us that treat.

I'm positive the fan films will take care of that.

Yeah, anyone get the feeling that 1,2 & 3 were
designed to appeal to a much younger target audience? Sort of a 101 Dalmations in space.

Despite its flaws, episode 3 is worth watching unlike
the other two imo. Just don't see it with high
    expectations.

I agree, it's a few beers and a laugh movie. It has some good scenes and some very stupid stuff, but it's worth a watch. It's not a very good film though with some of the worst dialogue I've ever had the misfortune to hear.

My one major gripe is that some of the key scenes in the proper films are now spoilt, the "Luke . . . . I am your father !" being the major one, plus Leia and Lukes reconcilliation.

Also the guy who plays Anakin has doesn't have the physical presence required to play Darth Vader.

Very funny stuff. My sentiments exactly.

Saw the movie last night. Does Lucas just bring bad performances out of people? Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Hayden Christiansen are all decent actors. Hell, the clone army actor was better in this film than they were. I get a picture of Lucas sitting on his fat ass in the director's chair screaming "No!! Your reacting too naturally to the action! You must all act as though a broom has been shoved up your ass!" Just about every bit of dialogue in this movie was absolutely worthless. When the story even attempted to go just a bit deeper, this was immediatley abandoned. (Ex: Palpatine tell Anakin of his former master - Darth Whatever, and how he knew so much of the force that he could actually bring the dead back to life. Very interesting if you ask me.) The whole movie just seemed to be big rush to push Anakin over the edge, whining and crying the whole way. If only Admiral Tarkin and the boys on the Death Star knew what kind of whiny-boy Darth Vader was before becoming the second most evil guy in the galaxy. They probably wouldn't have been as respectful.

Obviously, I'm not the greatest movie reviewer. I can't find all of the words necessary to convey how disappointed I am with this film. One good thing will come of this though, all those Star Wars fan boys with their fake lightsabers and hooded cloaks will, once again, be relegated to the once a year Star Wars convention. Hidden from the public, just like their mothers intended.

  30. Spot on smearbrick1.

My main problem with all three prequels is that the key character developments in the movie don't make sense.

EP1 - Anakin's mom want to keep Anakin and then her reaction in letting him go in crazy death defying race is simply unbelievable.

EP2 - The romance between Anakin and Padme is again, completely inexplicable.

EP3 - The critical scene where Anakin turns to the dark side disappoints.

George Lucas make be a "master storyteller" and good at special effects, but he has absolutely no idea on how to direct living breath actors. Like some of the others in this thread, I found some of the characters in the droid army had much more character than the "real" actors.

    Regards.
