I am curious what the best program user friendly that there is to capture from the cam via firewire to the computer... Money isnt an object right now on which program, since sometimes the more expensive programs dont do enough for the end user.. Any help would be nice.. I am a newb.....

    Thanks Fellas

    Hi chess,

WinDV is very reliable and free. It's used purely for "capturing" (actually, it's transferring) and you can write to one continuous DV AVI file (set the "Discontinuity threshold" to 0), or to different clips in separate files for each scene change (set the "Discontinuity threshold" to 1).

It's pretty intuitive to use too. Loads of people use it and recommend it.

    Good luck...

Before anyone can recommend an editing program, they need to know what kind of things you want to do, your level of knowledge - a general description of what you're trying to achieve.

    daamon:

I guess I am trying to edit and put music into the "movie" and burn onto dvd or cdr for just collection. Basicaly this is all drag strip racing, and excitement within the pit area... Also I know you can create menus, as I use to with Music DVDs in my car. Hope this helps!!!

Just got the same camcorder yesterday
So far, I have transfered with Vegas 4, Studio 8 and WinDV.

The Nightshot plus is just simply amazing
I thought my old Sony Hi8 did good in low light, but this camcorder just blows it away

In that case you'd get away with either some good freeware, or some less expensive editors. I've not tried any of the following, but have seen them recommended and their write-up sounds like they'll be suitable.

    Freeware:
    Avid Free DV
    Zwei-stein
    AviTricks

    Payware:
    VideoWave
    Video Edit Magic
    Mainconcept EVE
    Video Explosion Deluxe
    Ulead Videostudio
    EditStudio
    Pinnacle Studio
    Vegas Movie Studio
    Adobe Premiere Elements

All of the above are in the "Advanced Editors" category of the "Tools" section... Read up, trial a few and pick one that suits your needs.

    Good luck and enjoy...
