How to Convert a Avi to a vcd/svcd mpg file without loseing the Aspect Ratio..

A Svcd will not convert any video over 50 Minutes, A Vcd will not convert anything over 60Minutes, so you might have to Split your video into 2 equal parts

    Step 1

Load Up TMPGEnc, more than likely the Project Wizard will load, Select witch video type you want to convert to. For this Guide, i will select Super Video-Cd-NTSC Film with CBR(constant bit rate)

    Click Next

    Step 2

    Select your video file

    Select your video type(usely Non-Interace)

Set you Aspect Ration to 1:1(VGA)

    Click Next

    Step 3

Just Click next At the bottom

    Step 4

Change the Estimate file size to 650MB is your Blank Disc is 700Megs, or Change it to 600 if your Blank Disc is 650MB.

    Most Important Step, CLICK BACK

    Step 5

After you click back, Click Other settings

    Step 6

In the next window, click the Advanced Tab..

    In the advanced tab,

Change Source aspect ratio to 1:1(VGA)

Video arrange Mathod to Full Screen (Keep Aspect ratio 2)

    And Check Source Range

    And Click Next

    Step 7

You Will get back to the following Screen, Just Click next

    Step 8

You Will go to the following Screen, Just Click next

    Step 9

Select Where you want to save your file, Then Click Ok

    Step 10

The Video Will begin encoding, and about a hour later, depending on your pc's power, your will have A Svcd/vcd mpg ready to be burnt to a cd..

A SVCD can use variable bitrate up to 2520Kbps. So how much you can fit on one CD depends on your bitrate settings. In theory you can get a couple of hours on a SVCD. Wouldn't want to watch it though!

VCD is Constant Bitrate of 1150Kbps. You can fit nearly 80 mins of VCD video and audio and an 80 min CD.

VCD is a fixed format, there's absolutely nothing to change and remain 100% complient. Going 60 minutes is a waste of disk space. You would be better off going unlimited disk size, then cutting the VCD in 2 at some appropriate point (ie not in the middle of a scene). This assumes it's under 2 hours and 40 minutes in length.

You may consider re-doing the guide. How do you justify working from an AVI instead of the original DVD (which you must own)? It's obviously a widescreen source, given your methods, so isn't a capture.

I have serveral AVI files as chapters of a movie series. Currently they make up some 3GB and fit for a DVD-R. Is is possible that I will convert them to SVCD format in away that the output will also fit a DVD-R and be playable in DVD player?
