hi guys..i have 2 questions... that are bugging me

    1. is there a tool that tells me info about the wav/mp3 file?
    2. i encoded a avi file to make it smaller, then i ripped the sound from the big file, compressed that too, and after it i wanted to link them together without compressing them again. i tryed virtual dub, but he doesnt recognize mp3's. Then i tryed Sorenson squeeze wich links them but i didnt find the option to merge them...so:
how can audio and video be merged without recompression?

    thanks

What makes you think that any recompression will occur?

What do you need to know about .WAV and .MP3 files? A WAV file is an uncompressed LPCM audio file. A MP3 is a MPEG1/Layer III compressed audio file.

create soundfile of correct length in cooledit, audacity, etc. save as wav.
multiplex (mux or "weave") together with silent video in avimux. save as new avi.

edit: - i noticed that most programs dont want mp3's for audio source.. is it possible to to waves with the same filesize as a mp3?

Any AVI muxer should be able to do it, I just like AVIMux best (Make sure you're getting the correct one-- v0.4c, available at DivX Digest). Others might include AVIMaster, AVIMuxGUI, ... Virtualdub once had a mod that allowed mp3, you would've used direct stream copy mode.

Mp3 is workable. Haven't had any problems with it myself.
