I captured a 2 minute video in mpeg2 with my AIW card and wanted to convert it to xvid or divx or something to send over the net for someone, and it plays fine in the mpeg2 format.
however, if i convert it to anything in an avi container, the audio & video get out of synch. its like there's some bad frames in the mpeg, and when i convert to a different format, the decoder messes up somehow. theres a news ticker running at the bottom for the duration of the clip, and 1/2 way through, it seems to have sped up in the converted avi file. i made sure that the source & the output are 48000hz.
anyone know what to do? ive demultiplexed the audio and video and re multiplexed them already tooo..
any ideas?

Since it is only a 2 minute clip, I will suggest you my "last resort" repair approach.
Open the captured MPEG2 file in VirtualDUB mod.
Select full processing mode for both audio and video.
Save the audio as WAV file, uncompressed.
Save the video as individual images (bmp)
Open the first image in the sequence (VirtualDUB will open the rest as a video sequence)
Select WAV audio for audio and browse to open the saved uncompresed file.
Save the resulting video as uncompressed audio and uncompressed video (will be a large avi)
Open this AVI in the encoder.
This should correct any problems with certain frames. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
