    Hi Guys,

I've been busy DV capturing for a few weeks now, but i ran into alot problems. First i had the "dropping frames" syndrome, but got around it by reading al the information you guys supplied on this website (thanks !).

The problem that i have now is the following :

The captured DV footage contains gray blocks, that stay in the same place the entire footage. I've installed a few Microsoft patches, regarding Ieee problems, can this be the problem? I have captured this piece of film
a few times before, (with the frame drop), but i did not see this stuff.

I will try to post a picture later on ..

Any of you experts seen this before ??

    Hi Guys, me again,

I forgot to mention that the blocks, don't look like chroma or scanline blocks, they are just large square gray blocks ...

Hope you can help me ..

Hi, i uploaded a screenshot to give you an idea.

A few hours ago i thought let's try another "capture" tool instead of winDV,Windows movie maker, and the blocks dissapeared, no more blocks !! Tried Sony Vegas, same thing no blocks.

Then i tried WinDV again, Blocks again. Tried DVIO, also blocks.
Tried Scenalyser, no blocks in final avi ....

What is going on ?? Did i mess up a direct X component ??

This looks like what I would expect to see with tape dropout. Do you see the blocks on the camera's screen during transfer from the camera to the PC? If you capture 'Live' (not from tape) do you still get blocks? What camera are you using? Is this from the beginning or end of a clip, or is it from the middle?

    Hi JimJohnD,

    Thanks for you intrest !

When i capture i do NOT see these blocks on my camera or in the winDV preview window. Only in the capure avi file. When i capture the entire footage, some 20 minutes, the blocks are on almost every frame troughout the entire avi file. I will try a live-feed camera capture and post the results asap.

Yesterday i filmed on a new tape, and transferred the clip (5 minutes), and got grey blocks using winDV and DVio. Capturing the same clip with Vegas or Pinnacle was perfect, no blocks in the file ???

    I'm uing a Sony DCR-HC14E

    Thanks for reading !!

I have a Sony DSR-PDX10 and when I use WinDV I only get mono audio. I use http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html now and everything works great.

I use scenalyzer also, and that works great, no nasty blocks. But the thing is : all the dv related questions on this forum are always answered with : Have you tried another tool like winDV ??

So when i had some frome dropping problems, i immediately got winDV,
and started experimenting. But at the end, it was winDV and DVio that was giving me these blocky problems.

Thanks for your reply, and i'll stick to scenalyser ..
