  1. I thought I would ask this here as this is the only forum I have ever really gotten good advice from

Right, is it possible to simply convert a video (mpeg, windows whatever) to an swf file?

Or is it a total pain in the ass that requires the 800 dollar software from Macromedia etc?

If it is seriously tasksome maybe someone could point me in the direction of a tutorial that explains how to use those embedded media players (the kind of thing you get at Ebaums world etc where you click the page and the movie opens up on screen)

Thanks in advance and sorry to the mods if this is OT, like I said I just thought it would be worth punting it out to the knowledgable guys here whom have helped me out in the past

You might try googling. This was the third link on the first page...

As for the Macromedia thing, there used to be a free software suite that handled SWF but the only part of that suite that I can find is SWFextractor which extracts the video, audio and graphics from a SWF file. I don't believe it works on the new compressed files though (version 5 and up).

You might Google for SWF editors and see what you find.

Off the top of my head, I seem to recall you can input AVI into Ulead GIF Animator and output SWF.

    Edit: Yeah, you can. http://www.ulead.com/ga/features.htm
