I have a subtitle file and a video file (avi) which i would like to join together, it doesn't matter if the subs can be turned off during playback. Can this be done with virtualdubmod? I have never messed with subtitles before so i would appreciate it to be kept simple-if possible.
    Peace

Probably not. For standalones you should leave the subs as a seperate file. Works fine for PC playback to.

I guess some players might do muxed subs ok though.

If the player is DivX certified then you could mux the subs and avi to a divx file.

Sorry but i don't get what you mean, surely i need to combine the two files for burning to dvd. Or am i missing something?
I re authored using tmpgenc and now i've got two files again, one is audio the other is video with the subtitles in. You have already answered my post on this but i'm still in the dark.
    Thanks for the interest celtic_druid.

I was refering to a standalone avi/divx player as you asked whether the file (avi) would playback on your standalone.

It now sounds like you want to convert to DVD Video.

If you hard encoded the subs, then they will definatly show up.

Yes the subs show up after running the files through tmpgenc but now i have an audio file and a video file which i need to get to dvd, preferably without encoding the lot again. Am i right in thinking tmpgenc should have produced 1 file that is encoded for dvd and i could then use nero to burn it without nero re encoding.
