    Hi,

I'm comparing two Ati Radeon Products.

    1- Radeon 9800 Pro Video Card (256MB, AGP 8X, DVI, 2D/3D w/ TV-Out)

    and

    2- Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB AGP DDR

In the specs chart, they seem to be very close ( as well as price), but what concerned me was the Refresh RATE!..1 had a R.R at 85 hz ; 2 had it at 200 hz.

Now, whats the deal with refresh rates, how does it affect overall performance?

    Thank You

To compare the refresh rate, you have to know the resolution that it's stated for.

One card shows 200Hz@1152X862 pixels and the other at 85Hz@2048X1536 pixels. The second is stated at the maximum resolution and the first is at the maximum refresh rate. The specs are actually the same for both cards.

You can go to ATI for a better comparison of the different models. It's mostly difference in type of on-board memory between the cards.

EDIT: I guess to add; Higher refresh rates at higher resolutions are generally better. I run my monitor at 85Hz@1024X768. It's a 17" monitor. If you have a 19", you would set it at 1152X864 to get the same equivalent resolution. (I think that's right)

If your monitor can use higher refresh rates, that's better. It really depends on what the monitor specs are as to what refresh rate and resolution you can use. If you use one above 2000 pixels you may need a magnifying glass to see your icons with a small screen.
