I have been burning DVD's for a few months now with reasonable success. I use DVD shrink to analyse, reauthor and backup to hard drive, then DVD decrypter to burn from hard drive to DVD. This may sound like a silly question, but here goes! If I can get it on the hard drive OK, should I be confident about burning to a DVD? Because this is where a lot of my problems occur. The burn fails part way through the final process. Any suggestions???
P.S. My burner is a Pioneer 109 that isn't perfect!

What is the actual failure? Do you get an error message or something?
And what are you you using to Burn (Nero etc.)? -
I use DVD Decrypter to copy from hard drive.
The error message I get is:
I/O Error!
Device:[0:1:0] PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 1.40 (D) (ATA)
ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CDB: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
Interpretation: Write(1) - Sectors: 0-31
Sense Area:
70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0E 00 00 00 00 2C 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: Command Sequence Error
RETRY CANCEL
I couldn't copy & paste the message so had to re-type.
It only happens sometimes, I have had some successes.
Any help very much appreciated. -
What media are you using ?
Have you tried a different make ?
Maybe you have a bad batch and the writer is having problems writing the file ? -
I am using TDK 8x DVD -R.
They are the only -R's I have at the moment so will buy another brand and see if it makes a difference. -
TDK should be O.k> I use them all the time.
I see there i another post about the Drive not refreshing the Volume label, so it may be related to that.
I'd be checking a few things.
1. Is the Drive set to DMA?
2. Is the drive set to slave on the same IDE as the HDD? If so can you move it to the second IDE channel and set it to master (making sure if there was something else there it is set to slave)
3. Try shutting down virus scanning software while burning, just in case it is bogging things down by kicking off a full systems scan.
4. And of course I'd try burning with another package just to be sure it wasn't a buggy / corrupt version.
But I think it is probably more connection / configuration (like leaving slave jumper AND cable select jumper both on etc.)
From what I read the Pioneer 109 should be pretty good but there are allways duds with anything.. -
Well, before I got to try different media I tried burning with Nero.
It worked and that was with two projects that had previously failed with Decrypter and given the same error messages.
So for the time being the problem has been solved.
I will still follow up the issue with the 109 though.
Thanks everyone for the feedback and advice!
